Period years after hysterectomy-bother GP this week or not?

I know it's not really a period but it feels like one. Have I grown a womb!?Should I see GP with any urgency? Or just wait and see if it happens again.

Yes! Go and see them. It needs investigating.

Hope you get seen quickly.

Naoko · 20/12/2014 19:28

Absolutely see a GP. The bleeding is clearly not coming from the obvious source if you do not have a womb, so they need to investigate what is going on!

Allalonenow · 20/12/2014 19:29

Go to see you GP just to put your mind at rest.

It's so so difficult getting an appt :(
I asked for appt this week to discuss mild depression and had the offer of a phone call or an appt in January. So I took a phone call at work, was prescribed AD which was supposed to be at pharmacy today and are not.

I haven't taken AD or spoken to GP about depression before. I just feel like accessing healthcare is so hard.

Perhaps I'll be given an internal over the phone. sounds like an easy option!

Ring for an emergency appointment. This is something that needs investigating. It can't be a period as you have no womb!

starfishmummy · 20/12/2014 19:49

Ask for an emergency appointment. It may be nothing to worry about but imo unexplained bleeding is an emergency

FrontForward · 20/12/2014 19:51

Bastard gynae bits. I had the hyst op because I had recurrent bleeding post menopausally which had to be biopsied every time. I was given op to spare me the recurrent investigations!! Ha Hmm

How old are you now?
Did the remove everything including your cervix?
How much bleeding is there?

Vaginal atrophy (VA) can cause a bloody discharge. This is because the vaginal walls get thin and can bleed simply by rubbing together.

Are you pose menopause?

FrontForward · 20/12/2014 20:29
  1. Yes total incl cervix. I've been post meno for yrs. I did wonder about atrophy. Thank you for a benign idea because my heart was sinking a bit here.

Make an apt now for early January. Probably benign. But it needs checked out

Hodorsbitch · 20/12/2014 21:40

See your GP this week. I am one and I'd be happy to see you and wouldn't want you to wait, worth being examined.

Hodorsbitch · 20/12/2014 22:00

But as has been said may well be something called atrophic vaginitis which is very easy to sort so don't worry about it.

FrontForward · 20/12/2014 22:06

I will phone on Monday. If I'm allowed an appt before Christmas I'll be surprised but I feel more justified pushing for one now. Thank you all

I'm just having the same debate with myself. I have notice twice now blood streaks when I wee. Also I have a foul smell and seem incapable of holding even the smallest amount in. think I need to try to get an appointment this week

Allalonenow · 24/12/2014 14:11

FF I hope you managed to see your GP, and that there was a good outcome for you.
Best wishes.

FrontForward · 24/12/2014 18:39

Sounds like a wee infection petunia?

I did get an appt with trainee who thought tissue was friable. (Egg and bacon anyone?) She swabbed in case of infection and told me to get results today. Not available and I will return the in new year and see another GP (the one who has prescribed ADs...started them two days ago. Hopefully they will give me something for my friable tissues!!

FF Just something for you to consider; there is much debate and concern amongst gynaes and meno specialists about the number of women aged 50+ ( post meno) who are offered ADs when in fact they are suffering from oestrogen deficiency. The thinking is that HRT ought to be used not ADs.
ADs have side effects too- and for anyone without a uterus, oestrogen-only HRT has very few risks ( all research shows less breast cancer in women taking oestrogen-only HRT than women not taking ANY HRT.)

My personal view is that many drs reach for the AD prescription too fast without thinking 'Ah- this woman is post-meno- maybe it's her hormones that need sorting.'

FrontForward · 24/12/2014 18:56

Thank you. I will be discussing that!

Got in to see locum. Who said cystitis so I've got some powders and lots of cranberry juice. Am feeling bit better with only slight pain but no more blood that's obvious anyway.
