Worried about new jab - has anyone had it yet?

My DD has her 4 month jabs tomorrow and is also being given this new jab at the same time.

I am worried as no one yet knows much about it, has anyone elses LO had the jab, were they ok and any side effects? I just need my mind putting at rest before tomorrow!

Dont want her to have it and then a scare starts like the MMR nightmare!

DD2 had it.

It hurt more than the 5 in 1, but it's fine.

WAY better than getting that awful disease.

There's an MNer who lost her beautiful 19-month-old daughter to it.

RIP, Freya.

becksmummy, my 13month old ds had it 2 weeks ago at the same time as his MMR. Was absolutely fine.

KoshkaTheFIENDLYGhost · 10/10/2006 18:22

My Lo had it, it only bothered him as he had two jabs in one leg...nothing yet, a bit of a snuffle. DS is 3 months

hana · 10/10/2006 19:02

it isnt a new jab in other parts of the world tho - just new in the uk

anniebear · 10/10/2006 19:10

wish they had tested it on my DD

Get it done!

popsycal · 10/10/2006 19:12

ds2 19 monyhs had it yesterday
didnteven cry

tribpot · 10/10/2006 19:15

ds due his along with the MMR a week on Friday. Not looking forward to it, but compared with amyjade's experience I could frankly dance to the surgery

Thinking of Freya.

Is this jab the same one that adults have for the pneumococcal virus? If so, I had it at teh beginning of last year and the results have been amazing. My arm hurt a lot afterwards, couldn't move it for about 2 days, but I used to get at least 3 chest infections a year, 1 would usually hospitalise me, sinusitus twice, and constant throat infections. Since having the jab I have had 2 throat infections!

izzybiz · 10/10/2006 20:19

I paid for my Dd to have this jab. she is Freyas cousin.

She had no side effects whatsoever. Not even a temerature.

(I know this isnt the case for all, but it was for mine.)

We have waited too long for this jab.

Macdog · 10/10/2006 20:21

my 8month dd had jab a few weeks ago
no ill effects, dh couldn't even tell which leg it had gone in

Olihan · 10/10/2006 20:25

My dd had it a couple of weeks ago and it didn't bother her any more than the other jabs. She also didn't have any side effects.

I think I'm also right in saying it isn't a new jab, it's been part of the American imms programme for a long time but the government(s) here have dragged their feet for a long time over the cost of introducing it.

nearlythree · 10/10/2006 20:28

It's been used in the UK for some time for 'at risk' children i.e. those with respiratory problems, and there has been no problems. My ds missed getting his by a month and I requested he have it before he is called in for it ( he is 4 mo.) as he gets lots of snot. It stung and he cried but I am so glad to know he's protected.

nearlythree · 10/10/2006 20:30

Yes, gg - the jabs are related (adult and baby)

hana · 10/10/2006 20:57

dd2 had no effects either, just cried for a few secs afterwords. she's 21 m

becksmummy · 10/10/2006 21:06

Thanks so much for all the response, I feel confident in letting her have the jab now

So sorry to hear about little Freya .

My close friend's ds dies of pneumococcal sepsis 2 years ago, he had just had his 2nd birthday. My own ds had the jab recently and apart from a grumpy couple of days, he is now fine. It has come 2 years too late for my friend...I think the Uk didn't do it in the past because it is quite expensive...

NotSoUseless · 10/10/2006 22:52

DD 14m had the MMR and Pneumoccoccal together on friday. except for the 1 min cry at injection she was absolutely fine. not even grumpy or sore or 'not herself'.

nothing. i was very worried though.

eidsvold · 10/10/2006 23:06

dd1 had her as at older age - as she was 'at risk' and had it when we got to Aus. Dd2 had it as a babe - no probs with either.
