Impetigo.
I'm mortified because it has doubled in size every 24 hours until this morning, when it was a weeping mess the size of a 10p piece. I stopped thinking it was an inflamed folicle and whipped her down to the Dr's.
Did I make it worse by applying Savlon and 'feeding the bacteria? Did she catch it from somewhere or does the baterica lay dorment in her skin? - I have read this helpful link from late Sept but I can't I find the indepth answers as to its origins. The medical sites only seem to deal with diagnosis, cure and ongoing prevention .... Anyone have any further info?

Don't stress Kaloo, it's very common and horribly contagious.

It's made up of the staph bug so she needs some Flocolaxillin cream from the GP.. and possibly some Fluxloc medicine too. It will then clear up quickly

SoupDragon · 10/10/2006 11:48

It's easily caught - especially if your child has soething like eczema which they scratch, allowing the bacteria easy access. fairly imformative but doesn't really say where the bacteria comes from. Implies that they pick it up from somewhere but not specific about the origins!

I agree with CreepyJess. Once you get the medicine, it should start to improve within a couple of days.

yes, apparently it is a social stigma, my christmas card display will be down to 3 now . sshhh but I'm letting her have KFC for lunch (in return for 45 minutes of maths work at home)

does KFC stand alongside smarties and fruitshoots on MN?

Staph is everywhere.. very common cause of sore throats etc.

I'm wondering if she caught it from me. Last week I had what looked like a small blister on the inside of my left elbow (right near where blood is taken) which didn't start like a blister, it just the popped blister look with soft skin. It was horrendously itchy last week but has now healed to a small red mark. It didn't scab. Dr now wants to see me later today (I didn't take DD this morning, someone else did).

OMG - where did I catch it from and how did the inside of my left elbow come into contact with her knicker line ?

Very worried now ...

You could have scratched your elbow and then transferred it to her hands and she then scratched herself. Don't worry about it

SoupDragon · 10/10/2006 12:05

(as for KFC, I'm at you)

Kaloo20 · 10/10/2006 12:09

Jennie is taking her, not me .... She's never had KFC and has been asking for weeks. [sigh, another sign she's growing up I guess - along with the footless tights she begged for last week]

You have this all ahead of you
