Is this Chicken pox?

My dd woke up this morning saying her back was itchy and when I looked she has 13 spots on her back now i'm not sure if it's chicken pox she has had a bit of a cold for a few days but that seems to have gone and in herself she seems fine. The other option is that it may be flea bites although the cat is outside most of the time and rarely goes into her room.
here is a pic of her back what do you think? I've also given her piriton this morning and would have thought that if they were flea bites this would have got rid of them.

I don't know whether I should keep her off school just in case it is Chicken Pox as we got a letter the other day saying that a child in the school had a comprimised immune system due to cancer treatment and we must notify if our children get measles, chicken pox etc. I feel it's only one afternoon off pre school and if it isn't Chicken pox we'd know by tommorrow anyway and don't want to risk this other child's health in any way.

looks like chicken pox to me, you may see more in a few hours

Donk · 10/10/2006 10:16

I believe that chickenpox spots have small blisters on top of them which rapidly get burst leaving them a bit 'crusty'

mumfor1standfinaltime · 10/10/2006 10:17

Not sure myself! Ds had bumps on his back few weeks ago and it turned out to be flea bites. I gave him some piriton syrup. I took him to the chemist as I knew doctors would be nightmare.

Bumping post for you!

throckenholt · 10/10/2006 10:18

looks like it - if it is it will develop over the next day or two - lots more spots - and the ones she has may develop a liquidy centre, which turns crusty over a couple of days.

have to still got mat trouseres?

ledodgywizardrobespierre · 10/10/2006 10:19

They do look like they have something in them iyswim not blisters as such but do look like they could develop into them, sort of yellowish. This is what made me doubt they maybe flea bites as the flea bites I have seen have been more like hives.

My cat is never in ds room. But he still managed to get bites from rest of house. If it is fleas, get some staykil flea spray from vet - £15 a can but lasts for 12 months. Excellent stuff.

booge · 10/10/2006 10:21

Ds's looked like that to begin with, took about 3days to start getting crusty.

trace2 · 10/10/2006 10:22

this is how ds was then in two days he was coverd, didnt turn for a 1 1/2 weeks.

i may want them, but am only five and a half weeks, scared of losing it, but i think i will buy them

ledodgywizardrobespierre · 10/10/2006 10:22

Part of me hopes it is so she gets it over with the other part of me is worried my 10 month old will obviously get it and also i've never had it either.

LIZS · 10/10/2006 10:34

Looks likely to me - takes a few days fro them to pus up and crusty. If they have multiplied by tomorrow you'll know for sure !

ledodgywizardrobespierre · 10/10/2006 10:35

No, no it's alright you just let me know if you want them later and you can pay me then.

I've just rang the school and told them she won't be in this afternoon just in case.
