Kidney infection?

DD had D&V and then a cold and then a chest infection and then a sinus thing

Then she said her low back hurt & the GP said bring in a sample

So we did; they appear to have sent it off to the hospital - do they only do that when there is an infection present? Or do they do it after they stick the test strip in anyway?

They send it off anyway to see if they can grow anything from it so normal

Oh, they always dip mine & then throw it away

They should dip it and then send it off ( that's what my gp does ) then if it indicates a infection you can treat straight away before waiting for results to see what kind of infection it is. Maybe they no longer do this as I think the dip test only shows the possibility of infection, the test the hospital does is more accurate. I have had dip tests show blood and sugar in a sample but come back clear of infection ( so antibiotics were not needed ), I know they are more careful now about dishing out antibiotics as people are becoming immune from over use.
