I should add I was fine, it was as easy as anything but I got a royal bollocking from pretty much everyone who knew/knows. (Not that I go around broadcasting it in RL)

I seriously thought about it but I didn't try - mine was falling out anyways. Turns out it had got wedged, had to have local anesthetic and it hurt like crazy to have taken out.

I had mine taken out - and nearly had to be scraped off the ceiling afterwards. In medical language, there was some 'discomfort'!
I suppose it depends a lot on how wide your cervix is at the time, where it is, etc, etc.
Go and get a nurse to yank it out for you with something that looks very similar to a long-nosed pair of pliers.

God no - it took two gynaecologists and a nurse and I ended up with a pelvic infection that was the most painful experience of my life

I was going to, as I struggled so much to get an appointment to get it taken out.

But DH was aghast and said rather vehemently that he didn't want me to do it myself... I got an appointment.
To be fair, she just used tweezers to grasp the threads and pull from what I could tell.. mutters about how I could easily have done it myself

Yep. Pushed it out with the placenta, when DS was born.

Well I needed a wee, 5 minutes ago. I decided to have a feel and the threads were easily felt, so....I pull and it's out.

I did read about 199 posts on a bc thread where loads of people have done it.
