Ovarian cyst

So I went for a scan yesterday, been having lower abdo and back pain for a few weeks, irregular bleeding for a few months.

Sonographer said I had a cyst on my ovary, about 3.5cm and whikst normally they go away by themselves, mine looked like a 'cyst within a cyst' and 'unlikely' to go away by itself?

All my blood tests have come back normal, no further action, my smear was normal and my other ovary, uterus and uterus lining all looked fine. Sonographer said to make an apt with my GP (myself) and she would put a note on my scan to be referred to gynae.

Now I have SEVERE health anxiety regarding having a general anaesthetic ....... Don't know where it's come from as never had one but literally since yesterday ive been getting myself into such a panic ive been sick and I can't stop shaking!!!

I KNOW I'm jumping the gun as haven't even been back to doctor yet!!! Anyone got some calming words of wisdom? Help me put this into perspective!!!! I'm a single parent with no family support. Hmm

Yes pink can't find much info other than that it's two cysts, obviously the bi but gives that away! Lol. Doc was lovely. Went thru my secs in detail..... It's 4.5cm x 3.5cm x 3.5cm he said they don't normally remove until bigger than 5 BUT wants me referred as obviously gynae isn't his speciality. I asked how it would go IF they didn't remove it he said they'd leave it. But I've kinda worked myself up to the fact it's gonna mean an op! He actually seemed more concerned with my anxiety bless him so he's put me on beta blockers!! He also said IF it came to having to have a GA I wouldn't have to 'suffer' as they give you something to relax you. He said he would put me down as an urgent referral given my anxiety so got apt on 2nd Jan. That's fine. CN - 125 levels also show level of 8 which (I think?) is fab as doc explained normal values are under 35! X

It all sounds fine. Please try to calm down. I don't think anyone actually LIKES a GA so you are pretty normal there!
It's most likely they will monitor it or drain it with a local if anything.
Deal with whatever IF it happens and try some distraction techniques or even CBT to deal with your fears- it might help :)

I had a GA last week to remove an ovarian cyst! I too am a health care professional and I too was absolutely terrified of the operation.

I chose to have it taken out though because a) every time I had an ache or pain in that area, I thought it might be the cyst about to rupture or do something terrible, which was enough stress in itself, and
b) I had to go for an internal scan every 6 months, which I hated and I couldn't bear to think about doing that forever!

It was over 4 years between the cyst first being noticed, and having it removed (me procrastinating!!) and it was totally my choice to make.

I was an absolute nervous wreck on the day of the op, but I can't tell you how pleads I am that I've had it done.

So, IF it comes to it and you have to have it removed, I have recently discovered that it's actually not the worst thing in the world! Good luck!
