Hi, can anyone offer any advice on this procedure my husband is due to have? wondering how long will need to be taken off work, and any other information mn'ers may be able to advise on.
Thanks!

Would this be for damaged knee carlidge? Just checking before I start typing a load of totally irrelevant stuff!

Hi, I had this op (an partial meniscectomy) back in 1986 when I was 20.
I wasn't in hospital long but did have a full leg cast on afterwards so needed to use crutches for a few weeks. I attended physiotherapy a couple of times a week , then once a week for a total of about 9 months. But it all depends on how badly torn the cartilage was in the first place, and how much they actually remove.
Hope this has been of some use, and all the best to your dh.

My dp had keyhole for torn cartilege - 4 or 5 years ago. Was in and out in the same day. Was a bit sore but could walk. Had to go to GP surgery to have stitches out about a week later and then back to hospital a couple of months later to check all was healing OK. He does a very physical, manual job at the time and had to have a fortnight off which was plenty.
Needed the odd painkiller for the week or so after the op but that was about it. I think the advice from the doctor after the op was take it easy, don't walk any great distances but keep mobile. Hope this helps

assuming this is for the knee.... my DH has now had 2 of these ops in less that a year.

First one was last october, in and out in the day, but on crutches, and advised to take minimum of 2 weeks off work. As it was, due to bad swelling and fluid retention, he finally returned to work in March.

The pain kept continuing, and got worse, so following another MRI scan, he had severely torn the miniscus again. Another operation in July, he is still on crutches now.

Im not sure if its just him, but he keeps retaining fluid on the knee and the swelling is silly.

He is under physio twice a week but not a lot is helping at the moment.

MY BIL had this done.

Make sure yu do the physio as directed. It is sore to do, but is very helpful in the long term

He still does all sorts of sports, skiing, running, has done triathlons etc

my dh had keyhole to get rid of damaged cartilidge earlier this year, in and out of hospital same afternoon, had one week off work (office job) and couldnt drive then physio for quite a while. healed really well and hardly visible scars!

Thanks everyone for your experiences.

My dh is aparently having a loose piece of cartlidge removed under keyhole. He was under the impression it was at least 6 weeks recovery, and I was horrified! His boss has already told him he won't pay any extra on top of stat sick pay, and 6 weeks seems an eternity

Sadly his job is an lgv driver so its not looking good.

The worst of this is that my dh is convinced that the lad who washes the wagons is responsible as he dropped a heavy duty steam cleaner on this knee, and this is when the problem started, my dad seems to think that its more of "sportsmans" injury? my dh definately doesn't play sports so who knows?

Dh had this last year and went back to work after 2 or 3 days. He never needed crutches at all- it's going to vary, of course, but 6 weeks sounds ridiculously long FWIW.

I had keyhole on my knee - not to fix cartiledge but to cut out the tendon stump - and all though I was in and out in a day I nearly wasn't - reacted badly to the anaesthetic and they would not let me out until I could keep food down. Kept some toast down just before they decided I had to stay in.
