Odd tingling/numb sensation - what is it?

Over the last 8 weeks I have become aware of an area on my right foot that feels "strange" - it is a patch from just below my ankle bone to just before my pinkie toe, and it also runs for the same distance under my foot, towards the centre of the sole of my foot. It feels a bit like when you have had an injection at the dentist, or where I have had numbness after my C sections - it is numb but "tingly" too.

I also have similar much smaller areas on my index fingers, from the 1st knuckle to the finger tips.

They are not painful, but I am becoming more aware of them and the one on my foot feels very strange at times.

Posted to soon!

I've an appointment next week with the GP about something else, and I will mention this now too, but does any one have any ideas what it might be?

I wondered if the patches on my fingers were RS! related as I us a keyboard a lot, but that would not explain the foot!

Do you have any back trouble? The foot could just be sciatica. But you do need to see GP as its in 2 places. Good luck!

Hmm - I have had back niggles since having my second child, but nothing out of the ordinary - certainly nothing really painful.

I'll see what the GP says, I just feel silly mentioning it. Which is silly really. Confused

Absolutely not silly to mention it, your GP won't think so either.
You'll feel better for bringing it up I bet too.

Hi. I have had this, also on the top of my foot. When I run my nails across it, the 'patch' felt like there was less sensation. I've also had similar in other areas although whilst they felt numb and tingly there wasn't any actual numbness. My GP wasn't really sure and it went away after a few months. I do have back problems and possible fibromyalgia and I know altered skin sensation can happen with this condition.

Thank you PJ67.

There is a history of Lupus in my family, and my DM has it with fibromyalgia symptoms too. So maybe there is a connection?

Definitely mention it to the GP. It sounds nerve related to me and best to get it checked out.

I've been referred to a Neurologist! Shock

Doctor was non committal but did talk about nerve damage or MS.

Thanks for updating! Try not to worry though- it still might be nothing much

I've had similar problems for many years. In my case it was cause by having one leg shorter than the other, thus causing back problems/trapped nerve. This was diagnosed and fixed by a physio after fruitless investigations by specialists.
It's corrected by a heel raise and flares up if I do a lot of exercise.

Any update after seeing neuro?
