Ive felt lumps, but they kinda come and go.. almost like my breasts are a bag of large peas? My sister had one, and had surgery today to remove it (think it was a fibroid?) but not sure how it felt.

HuwEdwards · 05/10/2006 22:09

bumping for youas I know some have

QuootieSpookypie · 05/10/2006 22:10

If in doubt, if youve felt one, go to GP... sounds obvious but..

MrsApronstrings · 05/10/2006 22:13

I have, found it one day whilst showering and it scared the living daylights out of me if I'm honest. It felt like a tiny dumbell shape and quite hard, it wasn't sore at all. I went straight to doctors and they did a lumpectmomy thingummy (technical speak!) it ended up being benign but they still took it out so as I didn;t get too used to feeling a lump and therefore didn';t spot any new ones iyswim. Have you found a lump?

alexsCURSEDMUMMY · 05/10/2006 22:14

how hard did you have to press to find it mrsapronstrings? what did it feel like? sorry to be nosey.

MrsApronstrings · 05/10/2006 22:14

mine was hard - I have small somewhat scrawny worn out boobs so it was quite obvious. I went to the gp and got refered within a week or so

MrsApronstrings · 05/10/2006 22:16

if I feel my boobs now they are knotty, uneven feeling inside - but this was a LUMP - htere was no doubt - it was round and hard - gave me that no doubt, sinking, have to get this looked at feeling.

It was fine though[relieved emoticon]

have been having lots of pain in my breast for a long time. have been to gps about 12 months ago, and she couldn't feel anything and said pain was nerve irritation from a serious back injury i'd had.
still got the pain and am paranoid( friend got breast cancer )). keep checking for lumps constantly and think i can feel something if i press reallyhard but don't know if it would be more obvious iyswim?

HonorMatopoeia · 05/10/2006 22:18

I was given the rather flattering description that it is quite normal for breasts to feel a bit like the surface of a cauliflower when you press, but a lump is definitely a lump, it feels very different.

alexsCURSEDMUMMY · 05/10/2006 22:18

mine are huge you see and i am overweight and i keep thinking 'what if the doc missed something'

HonorMatopoeia · 05/10/2006 22:19

I'm a 36 FF chick, my lump was still very obvious. But, still go to the doctors, if nothing else, it should put your mind at rest.

MrsApronstrings · 05/10/2006 22:21

if your worried get it checked - or you'll give yourself sleepless nights until you do. The gp referred me but did tell me he thought it was ok - there are things they look for - like whether it has hard definate edges or not, whether it moves(and i really can't remember what is good and what is not) but your gp may have a look and decide there is nothing to worry about.

alexsCURSEDMUMMY · 05/10/2006 22:21

thats reassuring honor.

my friend has been told that her cancer has spread and can only be managed, and i have this constant low level anxiety.you know that horrible cold, stomach lurching feeling?i keep getting that all the time.

I had one. It was hard, about an inch round and a little tender at times. this was 9 years ago. It was a fibroidaenoma. I had a biopsy with an ultrasound, it was benign, but a bit uncomfortable as it was near where the bone of my bra went. I had it removed by day surgery under a general anaesthetic, and was back at work within a week. They are very common, but it's always best to have them checked. No i have a scar of about an inch that is quite faded. That's my tale hth and let us know how you get on

AllieBooooooooongo · 05/10/2006 22:23

i have FF norks too

MrsApronstrings · 05/10/2006 22:23

wow ladies I said mine were scrawny but

cauliflower a very good description - my lump was also really obvious - I was not in doubt when i found it

HonorMatopoeia · 05/10/2006 22:23

You're bound to be on high alert at the moment, I'm so sorry to hear about your friend.

alexsCURSEDMUMMY · 05/10/2006 22:25

i can only feel anything if i press really hard and even then i'm not sure.just the thought makes me want to vomit.sorry to be such a self pitying hypochondriac.

cursed mummy hopefully the doc will be able to ease tyour worry tomorrow - if you get referred appointments are usually very quick in most places I think - so you shouldn't have too long to wait

alexsCURSEDMUMMY · 05/10/2006 22:34

hiya cursedmummy, i found a lump when showering about 3years ago. as every one has said, it definitely felt like an unmistakable lump. my mum had a double mastectomy so natch, i was bloody petrified. thankfully it was just a cyst type thing. had it removed with a small cannula and a local anaesthetic. it was just fine. have had 2 others removed since, again just cysts. try not to worry too much before you get it checked (hard , i know) cause lots of lumps are nothing sisnister. hth. xx

alexsCURSEDMUMMY · 05/10/2006 23:03

it does help billiejo thank you. i think the fact that i'm getting so much pain is a good sign too. constantly burning and sore feeling.

I had one a while ago (pre-baby) - it was very obvious and painful (which is apparently a good sign). I was referred for a biopsy but for one reason & another ended up with a priavte appointment where they just did an ultrasound and found it to be milk tissue which had moved through the top layer of breast tissue (don't remember the technical terms). It sorted itself with no problems. Good luck tomorrow - definitely best to get these things checked out asap.
