I have a DS (1.8) who is always bumping his head. At such a young age he has already had 2 stiches in his forehead after getting very excited watching the Tweenies, falling forward and banging his head on the TV.
At the moment he has a black eye, which occured while running out of DS bedroom and falling into her bedpost.
On a regular day he will bump his head on the/door frame/table/bannister or anything else he in his way at least 2-3 times.
Friends have said to me that he is just a proper little boy.

However, while out shopping this morning a lady began cooing over hime in the trolley and asked about his eye. I explained what happened and what he is like. Her comment to me was that his head will only take so many bumps. Her comment and scared me a bit.

Have have thought about getting him one of those helmets to protect his head, does anyone know anymore about them?

DS has had regular checks with doctor/health visitor, neither are worried about his excessive banging.

My DS is exactly like this too!!! He is sporting a black eye at the minute which he got whilst climbing up some rocks near the school and fell down them and banged his face and also scraped his leg in two places. He is always busting his lip, nose and banging his head all the time, I worry about him constantly because he's just so clumsy.

He got up this morning and could hardly open his eye and felt like I had to explain to his teacher how he had done it.

Don't worry about it, really. The woman doesn't know what she is talking about.

I remember dd as a young baby banging her head on virtually everything. In the space of one month I had taken her to casualty 3 times for her head to be examined - she fell forwards and hit it so hard on the edge of the video unit a big snot flew out of her nose on impact, another time she fell off a chair onto a tiled floor and yet another she ran at full speed into the edge of a piano. I was told that it takes a hell of a lot more than that to really seriously hurt a child's head.

Kids get bumps and knocks all the time, it's life.

Thanks creepydazy,

I'm glad I'm not the only one with a clumsy DS.
Your DS sounds slightly older than mine. Has he always been the same?

My DS started walking at 10 months and hasn't stopped bumping since!

Yes he's 4 but just as clumsy as when he first started to walk, he literally trips over his own shadow and other times he wanders around in a world of his own and bumps into anything.

Its a worrying time especially when you have a boy as they just seem to do everything with speed!!
