Anyone bought antibiotics?

Here in the UK I mean?
I have an infection just now and Dr has given me a 7 day course. However, I've looked at the NICE guidelines and it suggests 10 days.
In the past, the infection has recurred and I've needed more abx after initial improvement so ten days makes sense.
My gp isn't one for patients being well informed iyswim, so going in asking him to extend the course will not go down well! I just need three days worth. Can I buy it anywhere safely.!
Thank you

I wasn't trying to be mean, you said throat infection! Jeez.

I sometimes need a strong antibiotic called Nitazoxanide. In this country a course costs over £1000 (according to my doctor) whereas in South America it costs a tenner a packet. I've bought it on the Internet and it worked fine.
Re. sore throats: I had one about 20 years ago which coincided with my father-in-law's funeral.
Obviously I couldn't complain about a sore throat when a family member had just died, and I had to be at the wake, but to this day I remember the pain. It was like swallowing razor blades.
I've got a few codeine left over from an operation which I keep for sore throats, as it seems to be effective for them.

Yeah, codeine v helpful at times like this! :-)

sorry if it is tonsillitis- you didn't say that or explain about the swab at first.

The NICE guidelines do state 10 days for Strep A throats. Whenever we isolate it at work, the lab report states that Group A Strep is a serious infection and must be treated by 10 days of a penicillin antibiotic. I suggest you print out the guidelines, go back to your doctor and ask for the extra 3 days of antibiotics. It doesn't matter whether or not he likes patients being informed, you need the correct treatment.
If that doesn't work, call the laboratory where your test was done & speak to the consultant microbiologist. Ask him or her to call your GP & explain the NICE guidelines.
Whoever answers the phone at the lab will probably huff & puff & say they can't tell you your own results but just explain you have your results & need to speak to the consultant or registrar.
Good luck. Hope you feel better soon.
