I had a rectocele diagnosed yesterday by my GP who thinks it is so big it will require surgery. I am a doctor ( a radiologist) myself and had suspected for a while that perhaps this was the case.
I delayed consulting my GP as I was embarrassed about being referred on to somebody that I may well know socially or work with day to day. The thought of being examined by one of the male surgeons who I work alongside in my hospital or by one of the male surgeons from the local specialist centre who I know socially because my husband works there is horrifying. Worse still is the idea of having to have a defaecating proctogram within a radiology department where I know many of the consultant staff since I run into them at the local private hospital. I fear also that my confidentiality may be compromised, even if unintentionally. I am concerned about being looked after by junior doctors who will then rotate through to my hospital and come and consult with me in my department.
I would like to know if anyone has had surgery without having to have a defaecating proctogram?
So wishing that I was just another anonymous patient right now and not a doctor, known within my region.
In tears writing this. Some support ladies please.
