Has anyone ever had a 4 year old with an underactive thyroid?

Our GP just rang and said that the blood work done because ds2 is exhausted, pale and emotional suggests that his thyroid may be the culprit.

Further tests are being done by the lab and we should hear more tomorrow morning.

He has been really out of sorts for the past 2 weeks on the heals of a nasty cold and gastro bug. He is so tired that he naps at least once a day (very unlike him) and still spends 12 hours in bed at night before needing to be woken in the morning. He hasn't been back to nursery for 2 weeks because he can't make it through a morning at home without falling asleep.

my dd1 is at risk of thyriod problems due to her having down syndrome.

Her recent one showed poor thyroid functioning - and so we repeated the test. It came back 'normal' apparently illness can affect the readings.

IF it had been like it was in the first blood test - she would have had to start medication which helps with thyroid functioning.

I know the paed said they don't like to start them on the medication unless they are absolutely certain.

It could be that he is still gaining strength after being knocked around my the cold and gastro bug as you said.

sorry probably not helpful.

Thanks... Actually, it is rather helpful to know that it could just be because of repeated viral infections... I hate the thought o fhaving him 'poked' again to check though. What a nightmare that was.
