My 4 month baby has sore red skin under the fold of his very chubby neck... any advice on how to treat it?

dd suffered from similar and is still prone at 9mo. Hers was caused by dampness. Make sure you are drying between the folds of skin well after baths and gently dab the area dry with soft cloth now and then on big dribble days. I was advised by GP to put on E45 cream after washing/drying the area once or twice a day too. I think Sudocrem would also work well.
Similarly I find changing baby vest halfway through the day useful if the neckline has got foody/wet.
Unfortunately it is a side effect of having those adorable folds of chub!

My ds had exactly the same. I just kept plastering it with talc as often as I could (i.e. every time I lay him down to change a nappy, dress him etc). It helped straight away, and then as it subsided, I bought a blusher brush and just kept adding a light dusting of talc to the area a couple of times a day. Hth.

oh talc is a good idea. was discouraged from using by HV but could get quite a light dusting with blusher brush idea. might steal yr idea cubby when we get a flare up.

I bought the Tommee Tippee bibs that have a padded roll around the neck. They stop milk from dribbling down under the bib while feeding, My girl is a messy feeder and I was having the same prob but seems to be better now.

It is better to use cornflour instead of talc as less harmful on the lungs. Just use it as you would talc.

I found a little sudocrem worked really well on ds.

I feel for you umzeki because my DD from 3 weeks old till she was about 6 months old had a real problem with her neck and not only it was sore but horribly smelly!!!! I kept on cleaning her neck after feed, I used sudocrem (the nappy rash cream) to put on her sore when it was looking yuckeeee. She had a very chubby neck and then the sore stopped when her neck became longer without the fold!!!!! What a releif because despite cleaning it, the smell could get terrible! Hope your baby is ok...

My sister aparently got it loads as a baby and my mum swears by sudocrem. Said one day it was there and the next gone till it flared up again and repeat!
