Behaviour reaction to chocolate? Is this possible

Our DS is behaving attrociously today. He woke up 'hyped' up, running up and down the stairs, shouting etc.

He has been told off so many times, resulting in a trip to the usual chair to calm down for 6 minutes. He peed all over the floor because he had to stay there for 6 minutes without moving!

He has lost his two favourite toys and it's only lunchtime.

Yesterday his Grandma came for the day, we went out for a carvery, so nothing too drastic there food wise (choc sauce on ice cream), followed by chocolates that she had brought and home made veggie soup in the evening.

Could it be chocolate doing this to him or is it just coincidence?

My DS reacts to anything with blue or red food colouring and behaves as if on speed!! Not naughty but very hyper, effects him very quickly like within 30 mins but usually wears off over 4-5 hours. Would be surprised if still going the next day maybe your ds was just on one of those days!

My ds reacts to refined sugars and artificial colours. He generally gets hyper about 20-30 mins after eating stuff with these things in and this hyperactivity can last for several hours. Artificial colours are definately the worst thing with him - he he can remain more agitated than normal for a couple of days after having them. Needless to say we try and avoid anything with them in but its not always easy.

It doesn't seem likely o be caused by the chocolate - the time lag is too long. Perhaps he's just having 'one of those days', or perhaps it's a reaction to the excitement and pampering of having had Grandma over for the day.

Try taking a step back and tellinghim off less, demanding less of him. Canyou chuck him out into the garden with a ball or trike or something like that, or maybe wellies and a trowel, to run off some of his excess energy?

Artificial colours are anything from E100 to about E160. I can't remember exactly but i'm sure you'll be able to find a list online somewhere. The others are probably right though - he may well just be reacting to an exciting day being spoilt by his Grandma.
