Seeing the gynae consultant this evening for my ovarian cyst results - feeling a bit worried :(

I saw him 2 weeks ago and he said he couldn't tell enough from the ultrasound I had done at the GPs (which said I had two simple cysts) so I had another done 2 days later plus CA125 and CEA blood tests. The sonographer was very experienced and said she could see why the last person had trouble as it was complicated but she wasn't worried by anything she saw. She did say there were several different types of cysts.

Because the two sonographers saw such different things I am shitting myself a bit. If they aren't simple cysts what the heck are they? I forgot to mention to the consultant that I had pretty bad PID 5 years ago. I'm worried what damage might be done or if there are some kind of tumours there :(

Has anyone else had multiple cysts? I have never had an operation and I am worried about them being taken out :(

Hi,

try not to worry. The cysts could be one of many things so no one can speculate on here what they are. I had similar several years ago CLA125 was elevated so was fast tracked for a laproscopy to investigate. Laproscopy involved a general anaesthetic and key hole surgery - one through belly button and two incisions around bikini line. Each incision had a couple if dissolvable stitches and now 10 years later I can barely see the scars although belly button not as perfect as it was. Mine turned out to be endometrial cysts which were drained (and again every three years or so when they start to get too big and cause pain).

If you do need a laproscopy then there are lots of historic threads with advice. It is usually day surgery (although I have always ended up staying over night). The main pain I get is referred shoulder pain from the gas they use in the procedure to pump up your belly and see what is going on. The best way to help this is peppermint tea/ oil. Takes a couple of weeks to fully recover but I was back to work two days after surgery (desk job).

I am afraid my cysts had already done permanent damage to my Fallopian tubes so had to have IVF.

Try not to worry and hope all goes well.

Well I'm back. He said the cyst is large and complex. I asked if there was only one as the sonographer said several but like a bunch of grapes. He said it looks like there is no malignancy there and my ca125 was 19 but I guess they can't be sure till they get it out. He is also concerned about endometriosis damage and that something is going on around the back of the womb in the rectal area which he needs to look at. So basically he is going to do a laproscopy to diagnose. Depending on what is going on it there he can remove cyst if possible and ovary if necessary or just decide I need to be referred to endometriosis centre to have another op. So I am feeling a anxious and overwhelmed right now. I have never had an op before and I suffer from health anxiety anyway so the whole thing is scaring the hell out of me. Op will be in next couple of months depending on waiting list. Terrified of the anaesthetic and what he might find :(

Sorry that should read the sonographer said several and he said there are but they are clustered together like a bunch of grapes.

Hi Nikki Try not to panic. I had a cyst on my ovary a couple of years ago and my CA125 (or whatever it is) came back high and started everyone worrying. But it turned out to be fine, although I had to have an operation to remove my ovary and cyst obvs. But it wasn't anything sinister and I'm fine now.
