sinus infection - miserable

I think ive got a sinus infection, general head cold. Felt tired (more than ususl) all week. Then friday night started to get the soreish throat and ringy sore ears that i getbefore i get a cold/flu.

Horrible headache eyes hurting in bed all day yesterday. Didn't really think of sinus but of course it all fits.

Had to drag myself to my cleaning job today. Sweaty weak and a bit sneezy. Then had a bath and hawked up an enormous solid blood streaked ball of pus/snot.

Have taken a sudafed and its made me feel sick. Its dried my membranes so its given me a sore throat. My ears are ringing like mad but eyes and head ok.

What would you lovely mnet experts suggest? I will need to see my gp tomorrow over something else so will ask her to check if my ears need syringed but any ideas??

Paracetamol and a hot water bottle. The hot water bottle it to hold against hurty parts of your head, including eye sockets, cheekbones. Maybe a nice hot drink too.

I also find that 'massaging' my face helps a bit ' - really just using my middle finger to press round the shape of my eye socket, along my eyebrows etc.

Sinus pain is shit isn't it? Mine are fucked.

Poor you, I had this when pg and couldn't take anything decent for it. I did discover the sinus tapping technique; tapping the sinus area with your ring fingers. Helps with drainage, apparently.

I hold a hot damp facecloth against my sinuses when they're really bad, it's the only thing the helps at all. Paracetamol or ibuprofen may as well be Smarties.

Have you tried a sinus rinse? It really does help to clear the gunk out and relieves the pressure for a while, plus the salt helps to kill the bacteria.

FruitBasedDrinkForALady · 19/10/2014 22:51

Get a sinus rinse. The theory and reality are a bit gross but it works wonders. I used to have 2/3 bad sinus infections a year and horrible hayfever but now I use the rinse at the first sign of either and it's immediately headed off at the pass. Hope you feel better soon.

lemming massage does help drain it and ease the pressure. Steam inhalation then massage.

Feel better soon Thanks

I do hope you are already feeling better, but if not- lots and lots of fluid, preferably warm water to loosen up the gunk and let it drip

LEMmingaround · 22/10/2014 17:27

Thanks. Feeling better. Not 100% the massage definitely helps. The cheek one was good for my ears. Was nearly crying in pain the other night and it really helped. Thanks for all the advice.

Dairy is the trigger for my sinus problems - and soya bizarrely.

Just saying in case it helps.

Steam helps with pain. And facial massage.

Streaming is really important, even if it's on its way out. You can get steam mugs cheaply from the chemist.

When I had a nasty sinus infection (made me dizzy if I moved my head, couldn't bend over as I lost my balance, total agony, temperature and general grumpiness although the last one could have been because MIL was staying for 3 weeks) the only thing that got it sorted was prescription sinutab (stronger than the usual stuff I think) and a big course of antibiotics. Steam and all that helped, but it really needed the big guns. Can you visit your GP?

Fattyfattyyumyum · 23/10/2014 07:27

Antibiotics cleared mine up in 24 hours, after weeks of pain
