Hello all,

The old thread has nearly run out so I hope no one minds me making a new one. And am I allowed to mention the Big C... Christmas?! Grin our last thread was started in July so I reckon this one might take us into December.

In honour of that, I will lay out some mulled wine, mince pies and I have wrapped myself in tinsel.

A warm welcome to jomidmum, but sorry you've had to join us. No one wants to be in this club, but this thread is a rather nice place to be. Wishing you a speedy recovery from your op, and hoping the pain eases soon.

Massive hugs to beccajoh Flowers

A big yippee for Marshy, what utterly fantastic news.

Sitting on the paranoia box for ConsiderablyBiggerBuns, I hope your MRI results are good - when will you hear?

Waving and sending love to everyone else.

I wonder if seeing as we are on a new thread, it might be worth just giving a bit of history for new posters? I will put mine anyway, and then others can if they want to. I am coming up to two years since my bowel cancer diagnosis (grade 2, stage 3c, T2N2M0R0). I had major bowel surgery and six months of chemo.

mrsrhodgilbert · 04/02/2015 09:29

Wishing you well speedy, lovely to be on the last lap.

Nelsonwasonce · 04/02/2015 11:46

speedy hope all goes well for you today Smile
I am 4 weeks post the same op today and all's going really well.
I have just started driving again today I could possibly have done that sooner but my surgeon is of the ultra careful kind that stops me from doing too much by telling me scare stories of implants ending up under collarbones and such! Grin
Recovery has been pretty straight forward, boobs might feel pretty sensitive for a few weeks,my skin felt a bit like a had a bad sunburn, just very, very sensitive.I did have difficulty tolerating my bra as that seemed to put pressure on my scars.I cheated twice and slept without my bra but paid for that as that made things sore between my boobs.... can't win sometimes.
I hardly needed painkillers and found a triangular cushion at night very helpful to keep me in the right position and give me support.
I did have a nasty twang at times which affected a nerve just behind my nipple, probably a sign I was moving a muscle and hit a nerve.
I wasn't given any exercises either as this op won't affect your arm movements (well it didn't mine)
Hoovering and ironing are still a genuine no no,I tried but that really hurts still afterwards.
Good luck with your recovery, let us know how you are getting on Smile

Salhal · 04/02/2015 13:25

Best wishes Speedy x

elportodelgato · 04/02/2015 17:37

Speedy, really hope everything went well today and your recovery matches up to your username Wink

savemefromrickets · 04/02/2015 22:57

Hope it went well Speedy. I had implants in a while back and have recovered really well and fairly quickly. I hope you're as pleased with yours as I am. It's great to be on the last leg of treatment, congratulations!

foofooyeah · 05/02/2015 11:38

speedy hope all went ok. Will be really interested to hear how you get on with your implants.

Speedypenguin · 05/02/2015 17:16

Thanks all.
Just got home. Stayed in overnight (planned) and not feeling too bad. Can move around so much better than the bmx. I had some tramadol yesterday but that made me feel very spaced out , the pain is not too bad today.
I have been told that I shouldn't raise my arms for six weeks again (first time anyone mentioned that). I was told that I could drive after two weeks if it was comfortable so will have to wait and see. No heavy lifting though.
Nelson glad you mentioned hoovering and such like- looks like I will have to impose on others again. The boys are quite good at hoovering though.

My surgeon said it would not be as bad as the first op and she was right so far. Not having drains is so much better. I haven't had a really good look yet but I can't feel the expanders poking out so that's a good thing.

Hope all ok with everyone. Will have a read back through and catch up with all the news later.

savemefromrickets · 05/02/2015 17:29

Brilliant, I'm so pleased you are doing well. Take it nice and easy, with any luck it'll be the last time you are waited on hand and foot. Smile

malteserzz · 05/02/2015 20:26

Glad you're doing well speedy, make sure you rest up though

I had an appointment at the lymphoedema clinic today as I thought my hand and arm were swollen, they measured it and it's 1% bigger than the other one ( dont laugh ! ) mild lymphoedema is about 10%. I've got some exercises to do anyway and I'll go back in 6 weeks for another check up. Mammogram tomorrow :(

mintyneb · 05/02/2015 20:38

Speedy, so glad to hear things are going well so far. Take care of yourself now

Malt, hope the arm swelling doesn't get worse, don't want it to be any more than 1% bigger! Good luck with the mammo tomorrow

Speedypenguin · 05/02/2015 21:14

Thank you to all.

Hope mammo goes well tomorrow Malt.
Fingers crossed it's stays at 1% or goes down.

Bed awaits- looking forward to not being woken up every two hours for obs or by a man singing in opposite room in middle of the night! Though can't complain about the care.

Marshy · 05/02/2015 22:48

Speedy good to see you safely home.

Thinking of you for tomorrow malt

Night all

mrsrhodgilbert · 05/02/2015 23:41

Speedy, pleased to hear it went well and you're ok.
Malt, all the best for tomorrow, will it be a one year on check?

elportodelgato · 06/02/2015 10:28

Glad to hear you're home speedy, no drains! That sounds good

Thinking of you today malt, hope all goes smoothly. I am wondering about lymphodema too, my rings are tight on my fingers, but I don't know if it's swelling or the 10lbs I've gained on chemo! Hopefully the latter x

Lilymaid · 06/02/2015 10:46

Glad to hear all went well Speedy
Malt - good luck with the Panini machine! When my DS had swelling, the only tape measures that the brand new Oncology/Haematology unit had were those paper ones from Ikea given out free so you can check your furniture will fit! They didn't get round his severely swollen Rugby player's thigh!

malteserzz · 06/02/2015 18:44

Mammogram done, panini machine is right ! Wasn't too bad and was over quickly it's just the waiting for the results now.

It was my first one since diagnosis in June 2013, they said they have just changed it from every 18 months to 12 after you've had cancer. Ugh hate typing that word

Marshy · 06/02/2015 19:12

malt I bet you're glad that's over. I hope the wait isn't too vile. Are you on half term next week? My dd is home fron uni tomorrow for reading week but ds isn't on half term until the week after.

malteserzz · 06/02/2015 19:53

Another week to go here before half term marshy
Will be lovely for you to have dd home :)

MomOfTwoGirls2 · 06/02/2015 20:04

Hello all, I haven't been on the thread for a few weeks. Welcome to the new people, sorry you find yourselves here. But the support is fantastic.

To give hope to the newbies.

This time last year I still had 2 Taxol to go (finished in March). And Rads finished in June.

And last week I was skiing. Pretty badly (as was the case before chemo), and I hadn't worked enough on my fitness, so calves were killing me. I took it easy, plenty of rest. But I skied 5 days, only on easy blues, but that's all I ever managed. It was fabulous!

Lilymaid · 06/02/2015 21:07

Lucky you Mom I would love to be cruising the blues again. Perhaps a trip next year ...
Saw Oncologist today and had routine appointment until he mentioned discussing changes to treatment next time (3 weeks). Now worried! Aargh! Probably means reducing the dose but I just want to hit the cancer as hard as I can manage whilst living a "normal" life.

mrsrhodgilbert · 06/02/2015 22:16

Oh lily, how unsettling for you. Why would he mention changing things without the time to go though it immediately? I do wish some Of these medics would think before they spoke. You shouldn't have been put in the position of having to worry for three weeks.

Malt, glad you survived the mammogram. I'll be having my one year on mammogram April/May time and the wait for results is up to three weeks. Hope yours is quicker and of course clear.

Hello everyone one else, best weekend wishes.

malteserzz · 07/02/2015 09:15

Lily how annoying for him to mention a change but not tell you what it is !

amberlight · 07/02/2015 11:17

Lily, anything your BCN can help answer?
