blood in urine and pg

hi can anyone offer any advice?

i have had blood in my urine since about 2 weeks after i miscarried in june. i have had 3 different antibiotics for urine infections. now being treated as out-patient in hosp. told not urine infection. had scan on bladder and kidney - not stones and told that all ok from scan. now due to have camera inserted to see urinary tract. im worried as hell cos ive just found out that im about 5 weeks pg and scared stiff that i may be advised to terminate, or that it may be the dreaded 'c' word.

trying not to worry too much. cytoscopy isnt for another three weeks. spoke to gp and he said he couldnt offer more or less hope than i had before seeing him.

surely the longer thihs is going on, the more serious its bound to be.

by the way, peeing has not been painful at all but varies in depth of red colour depending on interval between going.

i hope someone can offer some assurance, thanx in advance.

Crazymaybe,
I've just written what I wrote below and realised it might not relly be very reassuring at all, but I thought i'd tell you what happened to me, though you might have heard it before!

I had blood in my urine right through my first pregnancy and thye never found out what was causing it - its terrifying, I know when you are pregnant, I was at the GP all the time! It stopped not long after she was born. Started up again when I was pg with ds, and this time I passed kidney stones a bit - and then had awful kidney stones all through and after pg with dd2. My stones only showed up on scan occasionally as they were very small. It was a very rare condition and I am prettty much over it now (dd2 is almost 3).

If you are pregnant they might not want to do the cystoscopy as it carries a risk of m/c, so you might want to let your GP know so he can let the consultant know, in case they want to do something diferent. I had a little operation on my kidney when I was 30 weeks pg as I was in a lot of pain. You also might want to find out if you will be sedated/anaesthetised for the cystoscopy as being pg might affect what they can use - I had a spinal anaesthetic in pregnancy and it was a weird feeling but safe enough.

Funnily enough, though, (talking to doc dh here) the longer that this goes on without getting worse, the less likely it is to be something sinister or malignant. They would have found something on scans if it was big enough to cause bleeding. So if you have been bleeding since June its very unlikely, so perhaps that is the reassurance that you need. Have you been checked out by the gynaes as well?

Sorry not to have been more reassuring or more help, please let me know how you get on.

thanx for your advise.

i phoned hospital last week and spoke to the urologist who booked the cytoscopy examination. he said being pg is not risky or problematic. i stressed my concerns and he said that its my decision if i dont want to go ahead, though he has no particular concerns of his own. do you think i should discuss it again?

im concerned that not finding out may be more risky both to me and unborn baby.

Crazymaybe - might be a good idea to ask the consultant to ask the obstetrician what the risk is. The O&G's job is to know the risks for all these things in pregnancy. When I think about it though, the risk I was told about wasnt in the cystoscopy as such but the stenting procedure - I had a tube inserted into my kidney which ran down to my bladder to allow the stones to pass.
You are right though that it might be better to find out what is causing it cos it could be more risky not to know. There are loads of weird things which can go wrong with the urinary tract and lots of them are very rare (my condition is vanishingly rare) so best to find out. ALl the best and keep in touch and CAT me if youwant as I have had loads of urinary procedures!
