My sister is convinced that we are all doomed. I prefer not to think like that, but do you think that she is right?

Roffle at "Mumsnet will still be here though".

I am feeling extremely depressed and despondent about the state of world though and I feel more threatened by Islamic terrorism than any disease or climate change, just now.

I feel more threatened by the laundry basket. It contains Ds's footie kit.

has anyone consulted Nostradamus?

AuntieStella · 14/10/2014 19:18

No, but try posting in the Ebola topic and you might find someone to agree with such nonsense.

??

There are a lot of well informed posters in that topic. And some very sympathetic ones responding to and supporting those with anxieties.

Crank, scaremongering posters get short shrift there.

I really recommend the topic to those with a genuine interest.

Greenwayslide · 14/10/2014 19:19

Lol really Ebola? It doesn't even spread that well.

I am thinking a variation of the flu virus. Or a pathogen which wipes out our crops (so lack of food will kill us) as there is very little genetic variation.

Pagwatch · 14/10/2014 19:19

Sure Savignon. It will be The Walking Dead with better tailoring.

grocklebox · 14/10/2014 19:21

HIV actually can't be called 100% fatal, for one thing because in the west in can be so well controlled that a good portion of patients die with hiv/aids but not of it (life expectancy for a newly diagnosed 25 year old in a wealthy country who is med compliant is now 40+ years)...but also because at least one person has been cured of HIV (Timothy Ray Brown).

But I'm being pedantic. I wish people would pay more attention to the facts about ebola before spouting off about it though.......

LittleBearPad · 14/10/2014 19:21

There's a whole topic Shock

SauvignonBlanche · 14/10/2014 19:24

Grin paggy. You and me both.

No. ebola won't wipe out mankind. It is simply not efficient enough a virus. I mean, I know what is it? 90odd% of people who get it die? But it isn't easy enough to get it for it to wipe us all out.

We will be wiped out either by a) blowing each other up and rendering the planet uninhabitable for ourselves, b) natural decline of the species by reduced fertility etc or c) by a nasty airborne highly adaptable virus with a long life (so it can linger on surfaces for long enough) and high mortality rate (and kills you quickly of course)

or zombies.

There's always zombies.

Stratter5 · 14/10/2014 19:26

Topic

It's very helpful if you have anxieties about ebola, lots of sane posters over there. :)

MissBlennerhasset · 14/10/2014 19:26

Nope, it won't be ebola. More likely starvation as we kill off the animals on our planet and our habitats. Cheerful!

CountessRosinaAlmaviva · 14/10/2014 19:34

I was just talking to a friend about ebola the other day, and I was saying that the hysteria reminds me of the early days of AIDS. HIV/AIDS is still here and nobody worries any more about it than we do about other diseases.

I reckon the end of the world will be like the film Serenity, something will be developed to 'improve' humans and will turn out in an unexpected way (like mass infertility or early onset neural degeneration) and we will die out within three or four generations.

itiswhatitiswhatitis · 14/10/2014 19:34

I live here so I'm all good.
