They have sent my Mum a pre-op letter before sending her out a letter telling her why she has to have an operation! Last meeting with the consultant was all was well and this letter arrived today out of the blue and of course the consultant is not available and his secretary can't tell my Mum anything and the GP should have it in his notes but they can't even do a phone appt for days.

It's Idiots Guide admin, how hard is it to get right? Now we all have to worry what the fuck is up because some/several DICKHEAD(S) (sorry HQ) can't send out letters in the right order.

can't you ring who the letter came from, was she brought forward for her op? was this perhaps the original date?

Mistakes do happen, and as a former nurse, I know how busy and complex the NHS is, and how overworked its staff are.

But I can understand why CheshireEditor is so upset by the worry that this letter is going to cause until such time that someone can contact her mum to explain what's actually going on. When a mistake like this happens, there should be some acknowledgement of the upset caused, and a swift process to sort things out.

Similarly, it is entirely wrong that SpanielFace has not yet received an apology for her midwife's mistake, and nancy75 was treated so rudely for a mistake that wasn't hers, and had to pay for her own scan, after she had made efforts to ensure that the scan department could send the second appointment to the correct address.

Mistakes happen - overworked people make human errors. But if the process to sort out the mistakes was swift and efficient, and apologies were offered quickly, reasonable people would not get so cross about them.

There should be a patient liaison officer -PALs, who might be able to sort this out, if you cannot get hold of the correct secretary.
