Any HCPs out there who can answer this question re catheter?

I sustained a bladder injury during C-Section and had to have both Foley and supra pubic catheters. On day of discharge Foley catheter was removed and the plan was made to go home with the supra pubic catheter and go back for a cystogram in two weeks time. The midwife insisted that I had to pass the required amount of urine before discharge (100ml? Can't recall exact amount). I queried this several times as the more water I drank the more liquid filled the catheter bag (obviously) but was told it was hospital policy. Should I have been made to do this? My understanding is that you shouldn't wee when you have a catheter, in fact that's surely the point? I keep wondering why she made me do this if it wasn't necessary.

The usual procedure is to clamp the supra pubic off and see if you can wee. Did they do the cystogram? They can also use a portable ultra sound scanner to assess the amount of wee left after you have passed urine. You are correct that a catheter of any type keeps the bladder empty at all times.

I had a catheter for 10 weeks post birth. Was horrendous :(

Yes they did the cystogram two weeks after discharge which thankfully was ok. They didn't clamp the catheter before making me wee though, so i have no idea how I actually managed to wee enough!

Sleep - yes so awful especially when you have newborn to care for! it was just under three weeks for me and I thought that was bad enough......
