Vomit

Just after some advice really.
I had D&V overnight (lovely!). Put it down to a pizza I'd eaten.

DS (10mths) cried a bit in the night, but settled himself after a couple of minutes, so I didn't check on him. However, when I went to get him at 6.45am, him, his cot etc. were awash with vomit.

As I thought he might be dehydrated I fed him (2 boobs at 7am), but didn't seem to have much milk as now only 2-3 feeds a day and boobs seemed smaller than usual - perhaps due to my being ill too.

He kept that down and so I gave him some water at 8am, and 6oz of water mixed with 4 scoops of formula at 8.45am. He has done two little solid poos this morning, no diarrhea thank gswd.

My questions are:
(1) If he keeps down the milk, when could I give him some solids, and what would you recommend?
(2) If this were to happen again - what is the best policy - wake and wash him during the night, or let him sleep? - or I guess I could try to give him a wipe and change sheets without waking him?
(3) He was at childminder's yesterday, but doesn't go back till Monday. Should I ring her to keep her in the loop?
(4) How common is this?

Cheers

  1. I'd leave it 24 hours and offer bland non-fatty stuff
  2. I would have to wake and wash him and change the bedding etc, I couldn't leave it!
  3. Could be a nice gesture to phone your CM and let her know
  4. Very. Although it depends on the child. DS1 was/is sick way more than DS2

Thanks Soupdragon. Only just read your post.

After a long nap, took DS out for a walk, but by the time we got home, he was steeped in diarrhea - up to his armpits!! After another bath, he took a breastfeed and had another long nap. Offered him a rice cake early afternoon - which he showed no interest in, so didn't persist. This evening gave him a bit of flaked rice in milk, which he took but then brought half back up. Breast fed him at bedtime, but boobs feel so empty I offered him some more dilute formula - although he wasn't interested in it, and went to sleep pretty quickly.

Am waiting to see how the night goes. Fingers crossed! Thanks again for your advice.
