Blotchy rash on toddler

For the last month my 2 year old has been getting blotchy sores that can last up to four days then leave slight scarring. They can be the size of a five pence piece and appear all over his body. At first I presumed they were insect bites as he has no high temp and he isn't unwell. After taking him to see the GP he advised me to go to A&E, but after five hours I was told they wouldn't do blood tests and to take him home as he was not unwell. They suggested it was flea bites - so I took my cat to the vets immediatley and the vet told me she hasn't got fleas. I also asked the vet to look at my son's rash to confirm it wasn't flea bites, which she did.
He isn't particularly bothered by the rash, but they are bright red and look quite sore. Has anyone got any idea what could this be?
Thanx

Hi, I'm obviously no expert, but I am a long time hayfever and allergy sufferer to pretty much everything, from pet hamsters to house fluff.

I was just wondering if these blotches are red that come upo with a bump / lump in the middle that almost blisters? If so I think I can help.... if not I'm sorry!

Thanx, the blotches are quite hard lumps, they don't actually blister or burst, but look like they could develop into blisters. Does this sound familiar?

i get them, as do my two sons when we come accross something we're allergic to. I get them along with hayfever, even the long grass can bring them up on my legs. My DS's seem to get them when they are hot. The itch slightly, but otherwise there is no illness. I think I've heard them referred to as welks.
You're absolutely right about the blister not developing or bursting, its just a hard white bubble on a red angry patch.
I hope this helps.. I'll see if I can find a pic on the internet.

Right, what was I on about calling them welks... its Hives! Silly me!

If you google Hives on the images and see if they match what your son gets...they can be treated with antihistamine, but I usually use cool damp flannel on the boys.

If it's only just started in the past couple of months with all the hot weather I'd definately be thinking it was hives.

Think this could be what my son has, though the photos look a lot worse than his rash. He started to get them after we went to Centreparcs last month. Bit concerned that my GP and the Peadiatrician at A&E said they'd never seen anything like it before?!

Hmm, sounds odd that the Docs hadn't seen them.. the pictures do look bad don't they?

I'm baffled.. have they cleared up now the weather is getting cooler? (My DS's get them especially when they are hot and sticky.) Seeing as your were at centreparcs with all that grass and leafy stuff did he show any other symptoms of hayfever?

I'm actually allergic to tree pollen, and because of this if I eat particular fruits that grow on trees I get an itchy throat and ears aswell as these hives! I think it's something to do with the silver birch tree.

I hope it's not serious and you have more luck in finding out what it is.

They actually seem to be getting worse now! Jeeze, it sounds like you suffer quite badly... hope you're OK at the mo.

I just read my post back, I do sound awful! I'm fine at the moment... looking forward to winter though!

If in any doubt, get him back to the drs. Keep going until you get the answer you're happy with. I really hope he's better soon poor kid. x
