Ovarian Cysts or something else?

So I had an 11cm ovarian cyst about 8 years ago when I was pregnant with DS. They aspirated it (massive needle through my abdomen) as they didn't want to operate. 6 months after DS was born they rescanned and the sac had gone so they said it wouldn't regrow.

A few months ago I had some cramping and increased urgency to urinate for about a week so they did an ultrasound scan at my GP surgery and said they could see 2 cysts which they thought were coming from the left side but they could not see either ovary with either external or internal scans. The cysts were 8x5.5xm and 4.3x1.8cm. The pain and urine issues had gone by this point but they said they would refer to gynae because I have had a cyst before and one was over 6cm. They said they looked fluid filled with a regular outline.

I saw the gynae today after a 10 week wait. He said the scan notes made no sense and didn't understand how they could not see either ovary or how they could assume ovarian cyst as they obviously didn't see they were attached to an ovary (what else could they be though?!).

Anyway so I am having another ultrasound to check and he did a bloodtest (CA125 and CEA which I think both check for cancer!).

I am getting a bit concerned. I have no symptoms but I am worried about cancer or if there could be issues from the pelvic inflammatory disease I had 5 years ago as the infection spread into my womb and possibly tubes and ovaries.

I suppose I just have to wait until the blood results/scan/follow up appt which will all be in the next 2 weeks. Hate waiting!

Think your GP surgery made a right pigs ear of doing your ultrasound scan and they clearly did not have the required expertise or skill.

At least now you have seen a gynae. Presumably they will now do an internal ultrasound scan (was the original scan an external ultrasound?)

CA125 can be also elevated if endometriosis is present so I would not be unduly worried about that particular test.

I would think your problems now are more likely connected to the PID you had 5 years ago.

I do hope you get definite answers soon.

Yes they probably did. They did both an external and internal scan at the gp but still couldn't see ovaries.

I didn't actually mention the PID to the consultant - it didn't occur to me as I wasn't asked anything about previous problems. I know that having PID increases the risk of ovarian cancer which concerns me.

I am worried how much the PID caused problems. Basically I caught gonorrhea which went untreated for a few weeks then turned into a full on womb infection. The GP at the time said he wouldn't know if any damage was caused to my ovaries etc without a laproscopy which they wouldn't do without reason.
