dd2 has a rash on her face that won't go away, any ideas?

Its a rash right round her mouth and chin and up to her cheeks. Its been hanging about for weeks and I popped a little hydrocortisone on it thinking it was very like eczema. It improved it in the beginning but lately its got a little worse and she is also getting spots with it too. I've stopped the hyrocortisone and tried vaseline and plain old germolene but nothing is shifting it. Any clues?

She appears to be fine otherwise just a little more tired maybe.

(My mum mentioned imptigo but I've no idea what that is/looks like).

Impetigo has a crusty yellow appearance and his highly contagious.
Take her to gp, just to rule it out.

Thanks for that, there's certainly no crusty yellow bits but I will make an appointment I think. Ta.

DD1, age 3, has the same thing.

She's got quite sensitive skin, though, and hte combination of toothpaste she gets on her face and her not being quite so good w/open cups means that part of her face is often wet.

I apply a cream I got at a local herbalist to her face every morning and night and that seems to do the trick.

She did see the GP, and it wasn't impetigo.

Kids often have this, apparently, at that age.

Thanks expat, it could be that. She's not as tidy an eater/drinker as her twin brother (or maybe he's just so starving that he stuffs it in before it has a chance to go anywhere else ). Anyone know if you can use metanium on the face? It used to say "and other skin conditions" on the box.....

I think you can use Metanium, frumpy.

I use this: infantstarflowercream

It's made locally just down the street from where we live.

DD1 has very sensitive skin, though.

My dd gets a rash like this, first had when she was teething - all that drool.... Was told it was due to saliva and given an anti enzyme cream which supposedly neutralises saliva - works a treat although as DD likes to stick her tongue out and rub spit all over her face this is an ongoing problem in our house! Cream called ABCderm - peri-oral, don't know if you can get in uk would try a chemist or boots. Hth

ds had a bad dry rash on his face when he was between 2 and about 6 months. HV prescribed a thick cream called epaderm which i've used for all sorts of things since. Its very good if you fancy trying that?

frumpygrumpy · 28/09/2006 13:37

thanks expat, I'll seek it out, I do like tried, tested and ticked!

notso, I have epaderm for DT2's excema legs so will give that a whirl. It works wonders on the hard skin on my feet tmi .

I'll hang on to the name, thanks mum2monkeys.
