Massively U.

According to a good friend, working in an ED: if you handle someone elses's bodily products (urine, blood, vomit, faeces) without barrier protection (gloves, apron, eye mask), then you might be in danger of infection from an infected person.

She compared it with catching HepC, not flu.

Everyone needs to calm down.

Why the guilt trip hackneylady?

Very mean spirited when the Op has admitted to having health anxiety

RiverTam · 03/10/2014 08:09

I live in an area with a majority West African population, so probably plenty of people travelling back and forth to Nigeria, but I've not heard anything to give me cause for concern so I think your DH should be fine.

hackneylady · 06/10/2014 11:18

It's not a guilt trip, Fanjo. It's about pointing out the vanishingly low risk and the fact that all our efforts would be better directed at pressing for international action to help incredibly fragile countries like Sierra Leone and Liberia, who will be set back decades if this outbreak gets worse and causes the breakdown of social order there.

And the OP didn't say she had 'health anxiety'. Several posts in, she said she was an anxious person (as lots of us are) and a bit of a 'germophobe', all the more reason to establish the facts.

I have worked in Nigeria and would say traffic accident more a worry than anything followed by being caught up in a bomb and or kidnapping but these are region specific.

Someone could get off a plane from Africa at any time and still be incubating it, its people like aid and development workers out in the sticks which are more at risk.

If they staying at the Hilton/Sheraton/Marriot etc eating steak and shrimp the risks are no different from the uk.
