dd1 has had bad eczema since birth. dd2 has had odd bouts of eczema. dd2 hands are now getting very sore, despite applying dd1 eczema creams, and they dont seem to be working. her ezcema seems different to dd1's, dd1 is very dry, open and flaky. dd2's ezcema is more raised, almost lumpy, still dry and itchy. which makes me think she needs different treatment. any ideas of what may work so i can ask her gp about it, as i know all they will do is fobb me off with steroid creams, which i wont b ahppy about as she still puts her hands in her mouth.

Not sure about what might help in terms of creams etc as my ds eczema is very moist and weepy etc.HOWEVER!!!! I am being a bit evangelical about homeopathy at the moment.Ds has really been suffering and we've referred to a dermatologist and my gp has been trying to get me the ssservices of the local paediatric homecare team for wet wraps etc. Nothing has been helping him. Took him to see a homeopath, a week later he looks like a normal baby( well, he is normal but you know what I mean. Minus the weeping sores etc!!!) I am very cynical but there seems to be something in this!

dd1 eczema was weepy (wet ezcema) when she was a lot younger, and she had a lot of infections. fortunatly dd2 ezcema doesnt seem to bother her too much (a bit on her neck annoys her and she had the odd scratch there) but i have seen her hitting/slapping her hands at times so i wonder if she does this instead of scratching.

My little boy had eczema for the first 18mths. We stopped cows milk, butter, cheese and yoghurt. Started goats milks and soya cheese, yoghurt and butter. He's been clear for a year or more and he has occasional dairy now although we have stuck with the goats milk. For the bath and shower we used AVEENO oil, followed by AVEENO cream after drying. I think you can get the AVEENO products on prescription

I have been using a Weleda calendula cream on dd. I also bf so have stopped eating all dairy which has made a big difference.
Now I drink sheeps milk, oat milk and rice milk. I am not a fan of goats milk at all and the sheeps milk is very rich and very tasty.
Also used almond oil with St Johns Wort and Calendula tincture drops added.
I also took her to a homeopath and it did help although I want to go again.

well i'm not berastfeeding, she is 19months old. nothing has changed diet wise, but the weather has. i know this affects dd1 (have been woken up the last 4 nights having to re-apply creams) and chances this is also affecting dd2. i really want to keep this under control without steroids as dd1 suffers thick black hair growth when we use steroid treatments (they appear shortly after treatment, disappear after a couple of weeks of stopping treatment). dd1 is also atopic, so has lots of allergies, dd2 has the atopic black circles and creases under her eyes, so may also ask for her to be referred to the allergy clinic as well.

Wet wrapping can help when the skin is really dry and cracked. Also, ds' skin has felt smoother and less dry since I started giving him vitamin E supplements, they seem to moisturise from inside out.

its not cracked really. its lumpy/scaley and dry. which makes me wonder if its a different ezcema to what dd1 has.
