Hi All.
My dd(6) has been diagnosed today with early/precocious puberty.Whilst at her daddies last weekend he noticed whilst helping her get changed that her her right breast was lumpy,he mentioned it to me when I picked her up and after examining her found it seemed to be both breasts, hence the visit to Gp today.
I've also noticed shes started to smell slightly of mature body odour,so after confirmation from the doc it would be ok have bought her her first roll on.Shes also been teary the past couple of weeks(now realise it must be pmt type of thing). Our Gp has told me not to panic and at this stage he just wants to monitor her by appointment once a month, and then take it from there.
I've searched online for info and it all seems so scary so was wondering if anyone is further down the line with this with their children or has any experience of this at all.

It all seems alot to take in for me,so goodness knows how shes feeling.

Not me but my friends dd has had pubic hair since she was 5. she's now 7 and although def not a dainty girl she is still very much a little girl. she's very aware of it and so won't change in front of anyone. have known what you describe in 8 year olds but not 6. the 8 year olds did just go on to develop normally though. not much help i'm afraid.

I went through early puberty as a child.

Was 5 when I got breasts and 8 when my periods started.

I cant really remember much apart from havng to change in a dfferent place to everyne else for PE.
My mum bought me a book suited towards young teenagers/children about puberty and the effects which found very informative and made my understanding better.

thank you both for your replies...still finding it hard to take in,at the mo.Ive been in to speak to her teacher today and explain whats going on,theyve been incredibly helpful and will keep an eye on her at school.she's very teary at the moment,i guess pmt/hormonal would be a good description.her teacher did mention that a couple of girls that have just gone up to the junior school next ddor have started theyre periods at 8 so at least i know the junior school will have had experience of this when my dd goes there.
my main worry is how its going to affect her mentally,i know all about the physical side lol so am prepared for all that but its the thought that she's going through,or will be going through it all without anyone else her age experiencing it around her,if you know what i mean.

shanks would you say it was a positive experience, was you teased,or did it affect you much, being the only one going through it that early?
im very lucky that she advanced menatlly,as well as physically for her age,and very intelligent anyway so hopefully that will help too.

I really don't think you ought to worry, my daughter was age 2 when she had her first signs of body odour and nearly 5 when pubic hair started. At age 11 now her breasts are continuing to develop, she still hasn't started her period, and apart from being extremely touchy and sensitive is absolutely normal. She still enjoys little girl games and is in no hurry to grow up. Keep a note of when your child tends to be moodier - you'll see a pattern even if she doesn't have her period! Nature is quite amazing, so just relax.

My dd showed signs of precocious puberty at about 8yo, which the doctor took seriously as it can have an effect on future adult height. There is a treatment to delay onset of puberty, if appropriate, otherwise I was told it was a matter of monitoring the situation. As it turned out, dd 'stuck' at that stage and is not much further into puberty at 10 than she was at 8yo! Hth.

My DD was diagnosed with precocious puberty when she was 8. She developed pubic and underarm hair and body odour was noticeable. She was monitored for a few months by our GP but then referred for the actual diagnosis. She had blood tests to check her hormone levels and an X-ray of her hand to see how her "physical" age compared with her actual age. She was referred to an endocrinologist but I decided against (after lengthy discussions with Consultant, GP and my own research). She is now 10.5 and has developed in line with her peers apart from pubic and underarm hair (so she tells me!). She has not started her periods although I suspect she will before she leaves primary school (I started mine at 9.5 and it is familial).

I would try not to worry too much. I found the info on the net worrying and depressing because of the potential effect on height. Ask for a referral if you are particularly concerned or would like to discuss your fears with specialists. I found my GP to be rather unhelpful.

thnaks for your replies.im feeling a lot less scared about it now.one thing that does cncern me tho is shes very tearful all the time at the moment, and very clingy to me.last night she didnt want to go to her daddies for tea, thats unheard of she idolises him,she just said she wanted to stay with mummy.
would it be worth mentioning it to the doctor,we've another appointment to monitor in a month, tho he said to bring her back if i had any worries in the meantime?
did any of you notice pmt like symptoms,i also get very tearful at my time of the month?

Hi
I know this is a VERY old thread but I just came across it whilst doing a search on early puberty and that's exactly why I'd like to add to it now. My dd (8 in the next couple of months) has a lump under her nipple and I'm almost certain it is the budding stage of breast development (she also has more noticable 'fur' on her pubis than she used to).
I'd really like to hear from theflumpsmum, demama, suedonim and yoyo now that your dds are 6 years older. How did they continue to develop and especially do you think their height has been affected?
At mo, I'm deferring going to the GP for a while to see if there are any other developments (pun, ha ha!).
Thanks.

Zimzam - its worth sending a private message to the posters above, just incase they don't check threads anymore. Hope you get some good advice.
