Me again with another question (should know better 2nd time round!!)
11 day old dd has some dry skin on her tummy and wrists. Midwife suggested baby oil but we don't have any in. Was wondering if E45 or a Simple moisturizer would be okay? Or is it best to wait until we can buy some baby oil? TIA

olive oil is best, or nothing at all. all 3 of mine had dry skin: I used olive oil on dd, didn't really bother with ds (was lazy by then) and it didn't really bother with either of them.

but if you don't have olive oil, simple moisturuser would be ok too. prob better than baby oil which is pure petro-crap.

olive oil or grapseed oil is what I used to use at that age.

ds2 came out peeling and wrinkled!
olive oil or nothing at this age i would say.

I would (and have) use vaseline or olive oil.

I used olive oil - found it better than moisturiser. Also used to put some in his bathwater - made for a very slippery baby, but helped a lot.

Was your dd overdue? Just wondering cos I was told that was why ds had dry skin.

Baby oil... you're kidding it's full of crap!!!!
Try any natural vegetable oil before that J&J crap... can't quite believe your MW (but then J&J's ads do say x% of MW would us etheir products on their baby)... there is nothing natural in that oil!
Vaseline is also petroleum jelly!!!

Olive oil is absolutely fine (and even far better than baby oil or vaseline)... and fundamentally it's OK to do nothing!

olive oil recommended by hv for baby massage/dry skin. we also used Kamillosan chamomile cream(also for cracked nipples)on dd's very dry patches. i have excema myself and baby oil etc cause me irritation, so won't put them near dd

I used almond oil on mine, both of whom had very dry skin - but in retrospect, I supose I shouldn't have done, what with the prevalence of nut allergies and all.....

ds is 10 weeks old, when he was around 2 weeks he started getting dry skin all over his body, tried olive and vaseline, it didnt work and since have been using aqueous cream which has worked very well and has very little dry skin( when i start neglecting his skin)
