It is hurting so much, throbbing continually

My own fault, I picked at a piece of nail the other day

If anyone has had one has it gone on its own?

I have just red I might need antibiotics and if there is any pus (sorry!!!) then a small cut may have to be made under a local may be required

am watching Holby too - no witlows as yet... (nor wicklow lol)

i had one once (whitlow that is, not wicklow) and relieved it with a large glass of wine and a soak in a very nice warm bath... (hey, any excuse...)
the wine took the edge off the pain, the warm bath softened the skin and made it very easy to pop...

go on.... you know you want to...

I had a whitlow too, again not Wicklow as it's not a town but indeed a county of Ireland...Anyway, I needed an antiobiotic as Gp told me that infection can lead to blood poisining (sp?) if not treated. Oh and please don't stab it despite what the other masochists (sp?) here say!

anniebear · 26/09/2006 21:01

Oh no, I'm going to die in my sleep

lol Thanks!

The pain has eased off at the moment, I will see what it is like tomorrow

The pain isnt caused by the infection but by the pressure. POP IT!

Friend at work had one on her fingernail the other week, was so infected her whole finger swelled up and couldn't get her ring off! Had to go to A&E to have it lanced it got so bad. Try and pop it - she wished she had, and think of the relief after!!!

Pain eased last night so I braved and squeezed

Bit of pus came out and it seems a bit better this morning

dd had one when she was about a month or so old. We went to the emergency gp as it was a bank hol, he sent us home with antibiotics and told us to boil a pin in hot water and to burst it ourself . DH had the job and we felt like such evil parents... One pop though and it was fine.

Hope yours is better.

No don't because it could get worse
you could go to the doctor and they might say to get some antibiotics and then squeeze it so that some of the pus comes out.
A good way of cleaning it is putting tsp on it.
But I have tried to pop it but it hurts so much and it gets worse.
