Mysterious Rash - Chickenpox?

Just noticed that ds (almost 3) has some raised red/pink spots on his neck, back of head (under the hair) and round his pants area. Seems well enough - no temperature. Have a doctor's appt for 4.40 but am a bit worried now (I'm 8 months pregnant).

Does is sound like the start of chickenpox? I've had the chickenpox jab (I've never had chickenpox myself and did not have any antibodies when last tested before the jab) but obviously it's not 100% effective.

Great bloody timing - it's going to be a long easter holiday...

they're definitely doing the rounds, so could be. dd2 appears to have avoided them but dd1 had them at 15 mths and had 3 sleepless nights, hi temp and v itchy. there are lots of threads on here for remedies.

It's the pox! Doc took about 2 seconds to confirm it.

Gah!

I'm actually finding it absurdly amusing at the moment (how strange is that?!) ... trust ds to get the perfect timing

Incidentally, I don't suppose anyone knows how much bicarb of soda to stick in a inch or two's worth of bath water?

Cuddles to your dd, Galaxy I do feel sorry for the poor mites - ds has been rather whingy this afternoon (callous mummy side of me says "so what's new?!" ). Has your dh appeared to escape?

to all those whose ofspring have chickenpox at the moment - do whatever you can to stop them scratching and taking the tops off the blisters. I found it SO hard and dd was scratching in her sleep and now she has a number of little 'pock' marks which will probably never go away completely - there are 2 on her forehead and one by her ear which I feel really awful about

GeorginaA · 08/04/2004 21:54

cookiemonster - I've heard (although haven't tested yet) that putting pure vit e oil on the pock marks twice daily after the scabs have dropped off helps the scars to heal up. I've been told by the health food shop that one of the purest & cheapest ways to get vit e oil is to get the capsules you're supposed to swallow, pierce them and squeeze the drops onto the pock marks.

Either way, I figured it probably wouldn't harm, and it may just help heal them up quicker.

I am keeping ds nails very short, but tbh I don't think there's an awful lot you can do once they're old enough to take mittens off when they scratch in the night

My dd is just healing from C/pox and I liberally sprinkled bicarb in the bath, got through 1/2 a tub too!

I am also using vit E capsules pierced to rub over her. Not sure how much use they are at the moment, but worth a try. Makes a nice mess too! and watch out for the odd capsule going missing whilst you carefully concentrate on rubbing the oil in. Caught dd (22 m) with one in her mouth grinning at me the split second I turned my back! Little monkey!!
