Maybe wearing those ankle support things during excercise would be a good idea...my dh has weak ankles and wears them, otherwise he easily hurts his foot!

I would avoid wearing ankle supports unless you have to- can cause more problems in the long term as it trains your ankles to believe that they don't have to do the work for you and ironically can make them weaker.

It could be your footwear. A decent trainer shop should be able to offer you an analysis of your gait and running style and recommend the right trainers for you.

Alternatively, slightly collapsed foot arches (flat feet) can cause sore ankles after exercise. This is quite common and easily treated, but would need diagnosing properly.

You may just have weak ankles and there are some good physio exercises to help this (again check with your GP first).

Are youy sure that 6 foot Goal Shooter wasn't kicking you in the ankles?

Yes I think GP just to rule out anything else. Then the trainer shop who can make sure you have enough support. Before you go to the trainer shop, have a look at the bottom of some of your shoes to see if you wear down the sole anywhere in particular and take any good examples with you.

The bleep test

Could be your instep, too high or too low, if it doesn't provide the right support the impact is taken by your ankle, especially the supporting ligaments. Good trainers a must (and I don't mean expensive).
