Itchy bumps at IV site?

Is it right that 2.5 weeks later I have red itchy bumps at an IV site? Just wondering if anyone knows about this.

I was admitted to hospital on Tues 26 Aug and had an IV put in my left hand in A&E, and the following day the nurse moved it to my right hand. I was on the IV 24 hrs a day for 3 days, and then on the Friday it was changed to overnight only.

On the saturday (30 Aug) when I went down to the colonoscopy and endoscopy, the anaesthetic had to change it and find a new vein, because he wasn't happy with the one that was in. That new one was also on my right hand.

My hands were bruised for a few days as I would expect, and the marks are still there. However since Sunday this week (14 Sept), I've noticed my right hand getting itchy around the sites of both IVs. My left hand still has a small mark but its a mark, not a bump, and no itching.

I'm back at the gastroenterologist on Saturday for a check up and results of biopsies that were taken - so my question is, is this something that I should be worried about in the meantime or should I just mention to the Dr on Saturday? Dr Google tells me I'm going to die of DVT, which of course is being taken with a very small pinch of salt.

I'm not in UK by the way so can't call non-emergency NHS number.

Thanks

I have no medical training ,but have had a fair few cannulas for IV stuff .

I would say don't worry and guess that it's irritation/reaction to the dressing that the cannula was secured by .

Good luck with results . Horrid ,awful time the limbo that is waiting . Flowers

Not a medical professional, but try keeping them clean and applying an E45 cream - this worked for me when I had the same. If it is still bothering you, the pharmacist will be able to recommend something.

Not medical but I have had to self inject twice a day over a period of weeks for rounds of ivf.
Oh heavens does that get itchy. I try to inject a new spot each time but by the end my whole tummy would be a mass of itchy lumps.

I would see a doctor as it might be an infection.

I see these a lot. Keep the skin clean and dry and it will settle down and sort itself out.

I went back to the gastroenterologist yesterday, so showed the nurse who did my weight / BP and she mentioend it to the doctor when I went in. Got given some mild anti biotics as the doctor wasn't happy that the itchiness had only recently started.

Thanks for your responses!
