Hi

Was wondering if any of you can help/anyone can help with a quesion I have, as cousins lo has been born with hydrocephalus and has had a shunt fitted, two weeks ago, but according to concerned Auntie, there appears to be no reduction in head size, could one of you fill me in on whether this is normal or not/how long your lo's or your own seemed to take to work, I'm aware that there are lots of different reasons for causes in the first place, so all cases may be different, but a vague idea would be good.
Thanks!

Hiya

sorry I can't be much help

My Daughter got it at nearly 9 months old as a complication of Meningitis and never had her head size change

I wouldn't expect to see a change overnight, I don't really know I'm talking about really lol, but personally I think 2 weeks doesn't seem that long to see a change

can your cousin not ring her Paed? or someone else at the hospital and ask, Im sure they will be able to give some advice

also ASBAH are a good source of info

www.asbah.org/

How is your Cousins LO doing?

Thanks Anniebear any info really helps, I have taken a look at the help website featured on another thread, but not quite sure how it will relate to cousin yet..... not really sure how lo is doing, he's been in hospital since birth on the 1st Sept and the trouble is they're not really telling her much, just saying to take it day by day.....whilst they keep testing the poor mite....he's breathing on his own now, but cousin isn't allowed to pick him up or stay for much longer than 5 mins at a time which leads us all to believe he's not doing as well as they're hoping, although I could be wrong, but you'd think they'd let his mum and dad stay with him a bit longer?... I'm sure he's in the best hands, as he's in a top london hospital, but the family are all just feeling a bit helpless really....

HI - my sister's dd had hydrocephalus as a 3month old - should have been detected before this as fontenelle was raised her little head didn't change in size after the shunt was fitted and she always had a slightly bigger head than normal because of the cause of the hydrocephalus.

I wouldn't have expected to see a change in head until the wee one's body starts to become proportionately bigger - Hope this helps

Sending best wishes for LO and your family, it's a fraught time when such teeny ones are so very very poorly

Wabbit, you are a star, thank you very much for that information, if I can at least explain this to my Auntie, she stands a much better chance of reassuring her daughter and thanks

When things are more settled and LO is home take another look at ASBAH

when I frst contacted them a lovely lady came out to see us and would be a support to us if we wanted through all of Ellies childhood

well worth looking into
