I have to phone up this week for an appointment for this.
The pack they sent me says I will be given sedation and a pain killer.
Would I be able to have a GA for this?

I don't think I would be able to cope with the sedation , my anxiety is really bad and the thought of being awake while someone puts something in me.
I was also abused as a child where I would be given something to make it easier for them to hurt me.
Thanks

I can't remember whether there's an option for GA, but you could ask when making appointment, or phone consultant's secretary; most are really helpful.

It is possible but not routinely given, how urgent is you appointment ( I have these routinely for screening) and have you had ga before (so have experience of being ok with it), as it could take a while to convince them of your need for ga.
(I've moved abroad now so never fully followed this through in the UK, but git the impresarion it could be done even if they weren't keen.)

I've had GA before and there have been no problems.
I've had on going diarrhoea for nearly 2 years, they took my gallbladder out last year but that seems to have made it worse. I can't eat without running straight to the toilet, so I only eat in the house now.
There is no pattern to what causes it.
Consultant says it's severe IBS but my Gp is concerned as I'm constantly in pain.
I know it needs done but I'm scared, having an object put in me gives me horrible flashbacks

Where I work we have had a few patients that have had a GA for previous sexual abuse. You would need to speak to the consultant who ordered your colonoscopy and he could request a GA for you.

Some other patients have sedation but request an all female team and that makes them feel a bit more comfortable.

You will find most people in this area are very sympathetic to your concerns.

I think given your situation it would be wrong for them to refuse you GA and don't think they would refuse you. Phone them and just explain the implications for you. Sometimes it might mean you need to wait a bit longer for the GA appointment but if you are fine with that then think your reasons are more than valid.x

Well after a week of panicking the consultant agreed to do it under GA.
I have to go in the 2nd October for it.
I know there's a possibility of being groggy the next day but will I be in pain and/or will I still have diarrhea or still dashing off to the toilet?

No diarrhea as there is nothing left to come out, personally I'm always starving but I don't think that's the norm.
Of course make sure you can get home safe and if at all possible have someone stay with you overnight / the next day.

Hope it goes well for you.
