She hasn't eaten anything this morning, but she has hives and slight swelling of the lips and she is hot. Her whole face is red. The only thing I can think of is that I had some chicken in peanut sauce last night and there was some oil from the tub on the leather sofa which I meant to wipe off, but forgot, if she laid her face on it would it have caused this?? She has had some priton and its going down.

Avoid peanuts, and ask GP re allergy testing asap

mymama · 23/09/2006 11:39

yes the oil on the sofa could have done it. Is she allergic to peanuts?? Have you got some piriton to give her?? I would keep a very close eye on her and go to a and e as swelling of the lips is dangerous and you may be able to get advice/referral to allergy testing. Definitely avoid peanuts until tested.

if her lips are swollen it most likely was something she ate so your theory sounds likely. Good that you had some piriton around! I presume you know she has some allergies then.

yes she has allergies, not sure what allergies she has as the GP won't refer her yet. Its all gone down anyway

Deffo see your GP again then. How old is your dd? We had ours referred at the age of 12 months I think, and that's not because we really pushed for it or anything.

Perhaps particularly at that age it's important to know what you are up against, as you are introducing solids and obviously they tend to pick up most things and put them in their mouths too.

SparklyGothKat · 23/09/2006 17:08

she is almost 5 ADOMN. Have asked many doctors if she can be referred and they just say 'oh just keep a food diet and work out what she is allergic too' I am sure that it was the peanut oil that caused it, as a few weeks back she helped herself to one of my tracker bars and she had a reaction then, tho. not as bad as today

Goodness, am just reading this. If I were you I would insist on a referral to an immunologist and not leave the surgery without it being actioned. 'Watch their diet', especially if it's a nut allergy, is just not a satisfactory response from your GP IMHO ... insist on a referral. A nut allergy can be very severe as I'm sure you know and if your DD is allergic to nuts, you need to know for sure so as you can ensure her school puts a care plan in place incase she has a reaction there.

Sorry a bit rambley but my son has a nut allergy and I wouldn't be happy with such complacene from my doctor! Good luck

I won't bore you [again] with how long it took for DS to be tested after his first reaction to peanuts. But just in case it takes that long.... ban peanuts in your home until you get the tests results.
