Is a UTI worth seeing GP for or will it go away?

I don't feel unwell bit the last few days, 3-5 days I think, I've been peeing a lot more than usual but only small amounts and it's been cloudy. This morning I've woken up and I still feel okay but it now hurts a bit when peeing. It's worse towards the end as the flow tapers off (sorry, TMI) and then as soon as I'm finished, literally as soon as, I feel like I'm desperate for a wee, I have that 'really gotta pee' sensation but obviously don't as I've just finished peeing and am still on the toilet.

I'm now sitting in bed feeding the baby and I still have that desperate for a wee feeling, where I think my urethra (sp?) is, even though I know I'm not desperate for a wee.

That's a UTI, right? Or not? I thought I'd actually feel ill if it was but I feel fine, aside from the peeing thing. Is there anything OTC I can take or do I need to see a GP?

How long ago did you give birth?

Bearfrills · 07/09/2014 06:49

Nearly seven months ago :) I had a section.

Sounds like it could be. I would see the GP. I left mine (also didn't really hurt) and got a kidney infection and was very ill.

AndIFeedEmGunpowder · 07/09/2014 06:51

Sorry. Didn't mean that will happen to you, just that it's best not to chance these things! Smile

I'll be alright waiting until tomorrow though? So busy today! And I don't think it warrants OOH if I don't actually feel poorly (correct me if I'm wrong).

The fact I'm busy today though is going to be a PITA when I constantly feel like I'm desperate for a wee. Still got the feeling and it's a toss up between really annoying and really uncomfortable.

I would see your GP. In the meantime, drink lots and lots of water! An untreated UTI can cause damage so it will need treatment. Take a sample with you. If the pain gets worse, go to OOHs.

I know what you mean Smile moving house with three DC, eldest is 5yo, so the last thing I need is to be properly poorly!

Drink lots of water and cranberry juice. If there is blood in urine definitely see doctor. I am prone to them - some just go, once though it spread to my kidneys and I was very ill. If it carries on I would get anti bs

EvenFlo · 07/09/2014 06:56

See your GP tomorrow, lots of water today to stop the stinging.
A UTI can clear itself but as another poster said, it's worth stating treatment to prevent something called pyelonephritis which is a real PITA!

I had a tiny bit of pink on the toilet paper when I last went Confused

Hi sorry to hijack but I've been wondering if I have got a uti too, I've been weeing 20-30 times a day but quite a lot of wee coming out and not painful. Not thought to check if it was cloudy. Had a dull pain in my abdomen. And when the feeling comes on that I need to wee it comes on mega strong!

I have had exactly the same what you have got now before though and I got some cranberry sachets from chemist and made myself down a pint of water, then another one an hour or so later and that makes you actually need to wee when you have the feeling you need to and (in my experience) flushes it out.

After drinking 3/4 pints of water and passing it through my cystitis has gone when I have had it in the past.

Also don't wear tight knickers jeans etc.

roadtripper · 07/09/2014 07:00

Go to the chemist / supermarket and get a packet of sachets for cystitis as I think that's what it is.

If that doesn't clear it up pretty rapidly (same day) then it might be a UTI.

I had about five bouts of cystitis after my c section with my DD. Think it was from not drinking enough water rather than the section though.

roadtripper · 07/09/2014 07:03

Ps a tiny bit of blood happened with mine if I didn't start taking the sachets quickly enough. Badoit sparkling water and cranberry juice are good too.

AndIFeedEmGunpowder · 07/09/2014 07:28

I think GP tomorrow fine too. Just drink loads of water to try and flush it out.

Jumpinginside · 07/09/2014 11:33

When I had a uti I rang the ooh and the talked to me on the phone then faxed a prescription to the nearest pharmacy. Really quick and easy. Much quicker than seeing my go. Maybe worth talking to the ooh.

BigPawsBrown · 07/09/2014 12:04

If you take a sample most pharmacists can prescribe the antibiotics now Smile

Bearfrills · 07/09/2014 17:20

I went to town but the pharmacy was closed Sad

I've now got a pain in my side, nearer to the bottom of my ribs than my hip.

I'm signing for our new house tomorrow afternoon and at hospital with DD straight after so going to have to argue with GP receptionist for a morning appointment

Argue bear, it's important. Get better soon.

I ignored a UTI in my early twenties, not long since left uni and started my first job (four days into it actually). Couldn't get a GP appt so went to OOH at a local hospital - they admitted me and I was there for two weeks and ended up being off work from my four day old job for 6 weeks, what a catch!

Had lots of tests, die injected into veins and a barium meal amongst others - slight kidney damage (scarring I think was the word they used) and had to take a low dose antibiotic for two years.

Honestly, I was probably v unlucky but doctors asap, even OOH tonight if you feel poorly - not worth the risk.

Still prone to that sort of thing even now twenty five years on.
