Heart murmur in toddler-anyone help?

I could really do with some advice on this one. Dd had a viral infection last week and when she was checked the GP said he could hear a heart murmur so to wait a week until the fever had gone and bring her back and hopefully the murmur would also have gone. However, I took her back today and it is definitely still there. I am in a total panic about this. He said it could be caused by one of three things, 2 of which need further treatment/ investigation and one that would just be a 'normal' murmur (most likely in his opinion as she doesn't get sweaty, get out of breath or go a funny colour). Trouble is, I got in such a state that I can't remember what the 1st 2 were. He said there would be a wait of 2-3 months on the NHS to see a paediatrician and I am seriously considering going for an appt privately to get it resolved one way or another.
GP said there is no real urgency but I can't get it out of my head that there is something wrong and that it was something I caused, maybe I didn't eat the right thing when pg or maybe she doesn't eat enough F+V now... Totally irrational, I realise but I am in an overreacting mood.
Has anyone got any experience of this? I could really do with some positive stories and if anybody could explain what I blanked out in the GP surgery I would be very grateful.
TIA

Hi there!

Easier said than done I know, but try not to worry! Most murmurs in children are innocent and the fact that your daughter doesn't get sweaty, out of puff or turn funny colours is a good sign. I am presuming that she is growing and putting weight on normally. If you are that worried, a private appt to see a paed may be the way forward, just to put your mind to rest.

dd2 hyas a heart murmur, its an soft systolic murmur ie innocent.

now dd3 i worry about, she is a very sweaty wee thing. we are waiting for cardiac appointmets for all 3 girls because of dh heart problems.

Thanks. I know that logically I am overreacting and that I shouldn't get so worked up but hey ho. I have had a few wee cries already and got a bit panicky but the fact that she is growing normally, never gets sick (has never had a sickness bug or chickenpox etc) should tell me that it is nothing sinister. That's logic speaking though... i am also considering that it might still be some kind of virus that is making her heart work a bit faster- she saw the gp last week with dh who had the same sypmtoms. His tonsilitis has now gone but he still feels ill so it could be that she still has some kind of virus that is affecting her. I might take her back to gp next week to check it again just in case that is what is casuing it and it will have gone away!
I have left a message for a private paed to contact me.
Misdee and Heartmumjamie, hope your los are OK. If it was someone else I would be quite sensible and tell them not to worry but cos it's my dd that doesn't happen!

Off to bed now as going to the seaside tomorrow
