Cervical cancer jab

Dd brought the letter home from school, we've discussed it, she wants the jab -so far so good

However she is massively needle phobic, has anxiety disorder and is under assessment for aspergers

She's asked if she can have it at the doctors rather than school because if this, I rang up to be told 'no, it's a school thing'

Is there anyway of getting it without having it done at school?

my DD is in year 10now and i held off for her jab as she has phobia and had bad reaction to MMR, also held off to find out more research as was just out when was my DD turn , i wasnt happy at the time as very new vaccine , i have now booked her in at my surgery no problem with a lovely nurse , so id ask again . cant see why would be a problem ...

"I rang up to be told 'no, it's a school thing'"

That's utter nonsense

"Is there anyway of getting it without having it done at school?"

Yes, absolutely.

DD is needle phobic and we had no problem opting out of having the jab at school. She had the choice of having done at the GP surgery or at the clinic in town. We went to the clinic because they are used to dealing with needle phobic children and can calm then down and give them more time.

Who did you ring?

School office very likely don't know the procedures and it would be best to speak to the local school nursing team.

Might be a good time to address the needle phobia, too.

i asked my doctor in person when i was seeing her about myself and she made a few calls and said was fine , think they do have to order it in as they dont carry a stock as schools do tend to do it ..but said wasnt a problem ..we go next week ...

maybe try that or talk in person to another receptionist as they all differ , dont think the answer "its a school thing " is a good enough reason to be honest .x

Injections can't be labelled as a school thing, it's a medical thing and you can therefore request to have it done at the docs.

It was the doctors receptionist -she put me on hold to check as she wasn't sure but then came back with no

You can contact the school nurses directly (the school should be able to tell you their number). I had to do this as my daughter was off ill for one of her injections. If you explain you situation then I'm sure the can sort something out. My daughter went to see the school nurse separately at the local hospital. I'm sure school nurses must be used to kids who are phobic, she can't be the only one.
