Sudden onset violent chills/shivers, agonising joints...

...but no temp (37.6). Can it be flu? I went to bed feeling fine, woke up an hour ago feeling I was lying on an ice floe. OOH says flu, but why no temp? Paracetamol has taken edge off cold/shivering violently/chills, but sudden aches in every joint - ankles, knees, hips, shoulders, wrists - are seriously hurting. Taken ibuprofen at OOH suggestion, temp still normal.
Flu means temp, right?
Confused

A drink of water can cool your mouth down for twenty minutes.

Haggisfish · 05/09/2014 03:31

How did you take the temp? My digital thermometers consistently measure our temps too low.

MrsCakesPrecognition · 05/09/2014 03:33

I get this once in a while - it is seriously horrible and I hope you feel better soon.
The freezing bit usually lasts a couple of hours (until I can relax enough to go to sleep) or so then the next day I feel pants. But it never seems to come to anything much. I think it must be a response to some sort of bug 0 but without turning into full blown flu.
The shivering hurts so bad Sad.

Did temp with baby thermometer under armpit and in mouth (after baby wiping Wink), checked DH s temp, it says 35.9 for him, so I think it's working.
Hope mine passes too, MrsCakes it is horrible. Sympathy. Ouch.

Sorry, waffly didn't drink before doing oral temp, so can't be that. Rubbish at replying, soz.

Well, mine is usually 36.something with baby thermometer, so by that reckoning, 37.6 might be slightly high? Kidneys always make me think of chills and shivers. Hope it stops soon.

Ta, haggis, me too!

MrsCakes I feel okay today - def not flu or similar. Have you ever seen the doc about it? I was thinking of talking to GP, as it seemed really weird.

I haven't, but that is more to do with my anxiety about doctors than anything else.
So glad you are feeling better today.

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 05/09/2014 14:21

Aches are back, but no chills. Have retreated to bed, seeing GP tues. Feel crap.

37.6 might be high for you? My normal temp is about 36.2. Anything over 37.2 and I feel crap. 38 and I want to die. Also, if you've taken paracetomol before taking your temp, it may have already reduced it

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 07/09/2014 08:33

I didn't really get a temp with the flu until 3 days in. Hope you're feeling better soonThanks

thegreylady · 07/09/2014 21:46

37.6 is about 100 so definitely a raised temperature. The shivers usually mean a rising temp and there's a good chance the ibuprofen/paracetamol brought it down.

irememberwhenthiswasallfields · 07/09/2014 22:17

I feel like this when I have an infection of some kind or have the flu. The worse was when I had a chest infection, I literally couldn't get out of bed and was crying from the pain in my joints.

Munchmallow · 07/09/2014 22:25

I've only had flu (aching joints, feeling like death, violent shivering) once thank goodness, and I felt chilled the whole time. I didn't take my temperature but I certainly didn't feel hot at all.
