Happened to me recently and I woke up in the night with pins and needles in my lips!
See your Dr, a Mnetter suggested getting my thyroid checked. I am now awaiting the results from my bloods

mine did this a while back, i went to see a specialist, it was the way i was sort of leaning on my elbow whilst trawling the net at work. have you done anything to your elbow recently?

TLV · 22/09/2006 14:57

don't think i've done anything however when i'm feeding dd I get stiff down one side depends on how i'm sitting (that probably doesn't make sense ) my period was over 2wks can thyroids mess with them?

I had in for quite a while on my right food. As it wouldn't stop I was sent for blood test (clear) and X Rays (clear). In the end I went to see a specialist to who told me it was the nerve due to a wrong sitting position - perched on a stool, with my legs crossed.

I'd make an appt with your GP just to be on the safe side but in the meantime try eating a banana. I complained of pins & needles recently when I went to see my GP for an 'MOT'and this was their advice. Apparently it can be imbalance of some sort (potassium?). It really did work for me and won't harm to try. I've found it an excellent excuse to treat myself to those lovely strawberry & banana smoothies!

under active thyroid messes with periods if the level gets really low because your body starts shutting down & not working. Are you extra severely tired n lethargic? are you losing lots of hair? cold? putting on weight? these would also be signs. hope you're ok. go to docs cos you should have mot. how old are you? X

multitasker · 22/09/2006 22:43

I have to sleep with my hands open and arms straight and below my heart if you know what I mean, otherwise the pins and needles are serious. I put it down to poor circulation - my extremeties are always cold, and part hereditary as my Mum would be prone to p&n. Might go to doc to get it checked out now I've read other threads

You definitely need to go and see your GP TLV, it could be carpal tunnel syndrome - annoying but very treatable, or it could be another sort of neuropathy - you need to know, if it is something more sinister the earlier it's caught the better. Hope it's nothing, probably is but best to be sure.

FatThighs · 22/09/2006 22:56

it is also a sympton of anxiety - if you are worried or anxious you can get tingling inthe the hands and feet.

pipsqueak · 22/09/2006 23:10

i had this tingling in hand s and feet a little while ago and saw my gp. had quite a few blood tests ,ecg as well as i was feeling light headed too. ended up taking beta blockers for a few weeks and it stopped . i think it was anxiety/stress following the sudden death of a close friend . i would get it checked out as ther coudl be loads of things causing it and if it is stress related the more you think about it the worse it gets iyswim. hope you get to the bottom of it soon xx
