Just having a moan really.

I'm certain it's to do with my ears and sinuses as they have been feeling sore/blocked the whole time. I've had several courses of antibiotics, penicillin and doxycycline. I've had nasal sprays, ear drops and sudafed.

I just want to feel normal again. Anyone got any experiences they want to share any ideas to help?

It couldn't be Labryinthitis could it? It makes you very dizzy and sickly feeling. It can take months to feel normal again I'm afraid.

Havanacat · 04/09/2014 21:59

I've had Labryinthitis and it didn't fully resolve for months. I'd avoid challenging your balance and general visual/depth perception for a while - I found shopping especially aggravating - lots of head movements, looking at a lot of things, and so on.
I think the balance mechanism in your ears is very sensitive and can take a while to calm down.

trixymalixy · 04/09/2014 22:12

My ears pop every time I swallow, so I think there's definitely some inflammation there. Would that be consistent with labyrinthitis?

Go back and ask if stemetil might help - it's for dizziness and nausea. I use it when my balance is a bit wonky (labyrinthitis here too).

Havanacat · 04/09/2014 22:14

I'm not aware of the full range of symptoms, but I was unbalanced - found it difficult to walk in a straight line, felt rather odd and spaced out and at it's peak I was vomiting and unable to move without extreme nausea.

mineofuselessinformation · 04/09/2014 22:15

Oh and there is a manoeuvre that can be done if it is crystals in your inner ear. Can't remember the name, sorry!

Havanacat · 04/09/2014 22:16

I have some stemetil too as I've had a bout of dizziness recently too which I think is totally unrelated as my layrinthitis was years ago. A virus can also leave you dizzy.

Havanacat · 04/09/2014 22:17

The manoevre thing is if you have Menieres disease - my Mum had it a while ago and it does work!

WhistlingPot · 04/09/2014 22:27

That'll be the Eply manoeuvre for Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) mineof which I've been lucky enough to have had a few times - protein crystals moving too far down your inner ear!

Does it only happen when you go from vertical to horizontal or vice versa OP? If it happens at other times it's probably not BPPV (sounds more sinus/infection related to me tbh). But if so, it would be worth getting it checked out. The GPs I have seen have seemed particularly excited by it, especially when the manoeuvre works!

trixymalixy · 04/09/2014 22:30

I've got prochlorperazine. Not sure if it's helping or not although I was feeling very sick this morning and that seems to have gone away now.

It's just so frustrating!

X-post! Yes Havana for Menieres too - that is much less pleasant though, i think, than BPPV.

trixymalixy · 04/09/2014 22:35

I'm dizzy all the time so it doesn't sound like BPPV.

OP posts:
WhistlingPot · 04/09/2014 22:41

No probably not BPPV but sounds horrid, whatever it is.

Flowers to you.

Twotallladies · 04/09/2014 22:46

Long time Meniere's sufferer here. The manoeuvre does not help or treat Meniere's, sadly.

Have you lost hearing? Meniere's causes hearing loss and tinnitus aswell as the dreaded dizziness.

OP, maybe ask for an ENT referral?

WhistlingPot · 04/09/2014 23:02

That's interesting Twotall, and sorry for slight hijack, but it's interested me that I was told since I'd had BPPV quite young in life, get tinnitus occasionally, that inspite of Eply's working for me, if I experienced it again in the next year or so (and certainly if more frequently) it could possibly be development of Menieres. But I do understand that Menieres does not usually respond to Eply's manoeuvre (and that it's not always effective for BPPV).

Def agree to ask for referral to ENT.

Twotallladies · 04/09/2014 23:26

AFAIK, Meniere's is diagnosed by excluding other causes. The 3 cardinal signs are hearing loss, tinnitus and episodes of vertigo. I was told all 3 symptoms have to be present, although they don't all happen at once necessarily. I had an MRI to rule out other causes. It's probably possible to have BPV as well (would be very unfortunate, though!).

Not a doctor-- just an experienced patient....

OP, I hope you get an answer. Being dizzy is so incapacitating.

WhistlingPot · 04/09/2014 23:35

Ah, that makes sense, thanks Two. Sorry that you've had to/are going through it.

trixymalixy · 11/09/2014 12:59

So I'm still no better. GP has referred me to ENT and I have work medical cover so should be seen soon.

She thinks it's BPPV. I'm hoping she's right as it seems like something can be done about it.

I really feel for those of you that are suffering with dizziness long term it's so debilitating Sad.

OP posts:
trixymalixy · 16/09/2014 23:36

I had my ENT appt tonight. He thinks it's vertiginous migraine and not BPPV. Wish it had been BPPV Sad

My hearing test showed my hearing to be absolutely perfect (all in the perfect line on the chart ) so not menieres.

I'm going for an MRI scan just to discount anything more serious, but I'm disappointed that it seems I have to just keep it until it's better essentially.

OP posts:
PumpkinBones · 16/09/2014 23:45

I was told I had BPPV but it was atypical because my eyes go the wrong way when they manoeuvre me?! Can't remember as was just relieved it wasn't more serious, however I am slightly dizzy most of the time, but it gets a lot worse if I spend a lot if time looking up, go on a boat or ride, etc. it is annoying but I am used to it.
