Thrush - cure with yoghurt?

I think I have thrush. I´ve never had it before but seem to have developed all of the symptoms over the last week or two. It´s very irritating.

I know it´s silly but I feel embarrassed asking for an over the counter remedy at the pharmacy.

I have heard it´s possible to cure thrush with yoghurt. Is this true? If so, what should I do?

Many thanks.

You can buy the treatment off the shelf in bigger supermarkets, yoghurt will only sooth the itch, it won't cure it. Go and get the treatment or it will drive you nuts ( I suffer with it a lot ).

Thanks very much. Can you recommend a brand or type of treatment? It looks like there are pessaries, tablets to take orally or creams for the external area.

I prefer the oral tablets but they do take a bit longer to work, if you have had it for a while then I would use the pessary and cream combo.

Cheers. I didn´t eat any fruit today apart from a couple of slices of tomato in a lunchtime salad. Usually I eat melon for breakfast, sometimes a bit more at 11.30am then apple, watermelon, pineapple or a stone fruit at 3pm. Today there is no itching, swelling, pain at all! I think the sugar from the fruit was feeding the infection. Also on Wednesday I had a glass of wine and soon after that the pain and irritation increased.

it is a fungal infection, live yogurt may help but it won't cure. You do know that you don't eat the yogurt....

go see the pharmacist, ask for a private room as you (understandably) don't want to have this discussion in public, and they will recommend a treatment.

Go to pharmacy, ask for a private consultation and then ask for Canesten Duo - one off treatment rather than faffing about for ages.

Or order it for next day delivery off Amazon Grin

If you can hang on order off chemist direct the flucanazole which is the oral tablet used to treat thrush and get a spare in case you need to take another. Cotton or no knickers are best too, just recently had a flare up. I found yoghurt did help on a tampon. Failing that write down on a piece of paper and hand to the chemist, people get it all the time don't be embaressed.
