Anyone got a MRI image of their brain?

My neurologist has tons of pictures of my brain on the computer. I am thinking of asking him to email me one or two so I can print then off. (Not sure if it weird or not to want a picture of ones brain hanging on the wall but hey, if there is one available why not).

Has anyone else asked or is it not allowed?

Err not sure.

Will you frame it?

Hassled · 03/09/2014 20:36

One exists of one of my DS's brain and he wants a copy of his too. Not many people get to look inside their own brain.

SauvignonBlanche · 03/09/2014 20:38

I'm going to take a photo next time I'm there.

CMOTDibbler · 03/09/2014 20:38

I had copies of the MRI and xrays of my arm - no harm in asking

callamia · 03/09/2014 20:39

I do. Every time I do a research scan I get some images. We always give them to participants too. They're cool.

JumpJockey · 03/09/2014 20:41

I've got one from when I was a volunteer (as callamia explains) and it's good fun for proving there's actually something in there!

eatyourveg · 03/09/2014 21:01

Think I'll ask then. Yes chockbic will frame it - just to have proof before all of it goes, that it was once there firing on all four cylinders.

Thanks all

Our consultant has lots of pictures of ds's head and brain. They looked fascinating. I really wanted to ask for a copy too. I wasn't sure if they consultant would be Hmm Confused so I didn't. I might when we next see her though if it's acceptable!

Kaffiene · 03/09/2014 21:07

The easiest way is to call the hospital (usually legal department) and ask for a copy. They should be able to send you a disk with it on. We have copies of all DDs MRIs and X rays. Some places charge £10 for it.

I was given the pictures from my dog's MRI on his elbow and from the camera that did the surgery...he seemed quite disappointed that I wasn't more enthused about them (I didn't ask for them) so I doubt it would be weird to ask for a copy of one of your brain.

Inside a dog's elbow isn't half as interesting.

Kleptronic · 03/09/2014 21:12

I've got one of my spine. I just asked, it was ok.

AChocoLipsNow · 03/09/2014 21:14

I was given the mri scans of my brain by my neurologist when I saw him privately but when I saw (the same neurologist) on the nhs and had to have another mri, they kept them.
I can't look at them. Whenever anything with brains even comes in the tv it makes my stomach churn and I'm usually not squeamish about anything.

augustusglupe · 03/09/2014 23:05

Just seen this and thought 'Yes' forgotton I had it. I had one done privately 4 years ago and got the cd on the way out. Only looked at it once and really didn't like looking at my insides especially as I obviously havn't got the foggiest what I'm looking at!

LadySybilLikesCake · 03/09/2014 23:07

I asked the last time I had one but the research doctor didn't send one Sad I'm helping with some more research next week so maybe Wink

SockQueen · 03/09/2014 23:08

I have several, because I did research studies to earn a bit of money at university (involved lying in an MRI scanner and doing sums/looking at pictures etc) and they gave you a picture afterwards.

It should be possible to e-mail/print off pictures, though it might require a bit of computer jiggery-pokery to get them into the right format. Whether they'll be allowed/willing to do it is another matter.

Musicaltheatremum · 04/09/2014 07:55

I still have my husbands MRI scans from 2000. He had loads done over 12 years. Fascinating (apart from the lump in the left side if the brain)

Matildathecat · 04/09/2014 11:59

Privately you always get a copy of the scan on disc at the time of the scan. Nhs no, but you can absolutely ask for it. There is a form to fill in and a small fee.

But, depending on the systems used it is not always possible to actually open the images at home because you won't have the medical software installed. It varies from place to place.
