I don't think I am kidding myself but I don't want to stop forever , I don't drink till plastered ( generally, I am not saying it has never happened) .
But my habit I to have a drink every night when cooking , normally two large vodkas or two bottles of beer .
I do then drink more a couple of times a week , visitors or pub .
I want to get out of the daily habit and just go back to it being an option at a special occasion and not a necessity because a friend has popped round on a Tues eve , or sun lunch or a hundred other reasons .

Any advice welcome or company would be good too .

I didn't have a drink yesterday which is normal, I do tend to have one night a week off . The plan I to make today another day off and see where I go from here .

Brave Babes Battle Bus (in relationships, but that's a red herring - or maybe it's because of our 'relationship' with alcohol)

No judgement, anyone welcome. Lots of support and advice.

Thanks all , I have been out to a bbq today and had two beers and then didn't bother with any more .

But odd really, I think maybe I am just a bit bored of it . It wasn't a struggle and i didn't try and limit myself, I just had two beers over the space of four hours and then came home and watched a film with the dc .

Who knows what will happen tomorrow.

I've slipped into bad habits over the hols - a glass of beer before bed time. I'd like to skip that on week day nights but last week when I tried I couldnt sleep for ages. I'm waking up very early with an arthritis flare. I'm absolutely knackered and need to improve the quality of sleep asap.

HowLongTillBedtime · 08/09/2014 15:00

OYBBK that sounds rough (understatement I am sure )
I am surprised one beer helped so much tbh , have you tried all the usual kalms / herbal stuff ?

Now there's an idea, in the past I have, with varying success. Must be psychological at night time for me with just a beer. It's not exactly knock out stuff is it? Mind you, a beer at lunchtime sends me for a snooze, so maybe I'm a cheap date Grin

I'll have to have a look at some herbal stuff I do have some hefty cocodamol but that does such strange things to my sleep and leaves me dopey in the day.

So tonight.... What's your plan?

Hi, am semi lurking but a bit reluctant to say I'm fully abstaining this week due to to it being my birthday. However, I didn't drink on Saturday! (Less commendably was that I was also hungover after polishing off a bottle of wine with DH when he got back after working away all week.)

HowLongTillBedtime · 08/09/2014 18:28

My plan tonight is just not have a drink , I have got plenty of soft drinks and tbh if I can get past cooking dinner without pouring a wee one then I am home and dry .

Nancery there is no way I wouldn't have a drink on my birthday just because I falls on a weekday . That to me is a normal persons reason to have a few drinks . I am talking about getting out of the every day whatever the reason drinking that I have fallen into .

Good luck to all .

We'll, my birthday is actually Thursday with stuff leading into the weekend. And it's only Monday !

SanityClause · 08/09/2014 20:32

I decided to cut back my drinking last year, because I felt like it was a bad example to my DC to see me drinking every day, I thought it would be healthier to cut back and hoped I might lose a bit of weight (ha!). I only had one glass a day but I "needed" that glass!

I now have a bottle of wine which lasts me Friday, Saturday and Sunday evening. Once I've had my glass of wine, I drink San Pellegrino water which I really like.

I don't go out a lot, but would have a drink or two if I did. (i.e., a G&T at the theatre, wine with a restaurant meal.) I also drank a glass or two pretty much every day while we were away on holiday.

I really don't miss drinking every day, and I really enjoy the drinks I do have.

I hope it works out as well for you as it has for me.

It's encouraging to hear your story Sanity and good to hear from someone who was successful at cutting down. I'm still doing fine. I had my alcohol 'allowance' at the weekend so now it's back to none for the week. I'm sleeping soooo much better too.

Comito · 08/09/2014 21:06

OK, after drinking far too much whiskey last night and feeling utterly wretched this morning, I decided I'm not drinking until the end of the week when I go on holiday. Managed to get through this evening without caving in and cracking open one of the beers in the fridge.

HowLongTillBedtime · 09/09/2014 16:45

Comito , a whisky hangover ? Yuck , have you recovered yet ?

Still sticking with my plan so far .

How is everyone getting on ?

Comito · 09/09/2014 20:20

HowLong, oh god, I felt dreadful. It took most of the day to recover. Sad

I'm doing OK, felt loads better this morning. Good work on sticking with your plan!
