Reacurring thrush

Hi. I have had reacurring thrush for about 2 months now. I am spending a fortune on thrush treatments. I have used canesten combi and also an oral tablet, like canesten once but co op's own brand which is loads cheaper (£4.99 opposed to £9 or whatever).

Anyway, my question is, does anyone know if there is a reason for thrush coming back. I have had bowel problems of late. GP thinks I have Colitis but I won't know for sure until I see a Gastro specialist. Is there a link between the 2?

Thanks for any advice.

I'm sure having thrush every other week isn't normal.

Mine was hormonal and sparked by the pill and the break between tablets. Very annoying.

However, if you have a regular sexual partner, then he needs to be treated too (with the cream, for a period of time) as he may show no symptoms, but can pass the infection back as soon as you've cleared it.

Agree re treating partner too, think it needs a fortnight of cream every day to get shot, and the bloke is unlikely to know he has it. Also, my GP suggested ironing the crotch of my knickers to kill the bacteria, and cutting sugary foods to a minimum.

Thrush is the pits isn't it? Makes me really grumpy

Ask the chemist for caneston 10% (will only give you 1 or 2 % unless you ask. )
Have a bath, dry yourself thoroughly and literally wack half the tube up as high as pos and plenty on the outside too.Sleep on it and it will do the trick-a bit graphic sorry but it works. And if you can pop an oral tab too, but yes you must treat dp.
Eat live ypgurt daily.
Good luck

really feel for you thrush is really horrible i know, i suffer from reacurring thrush i get it 2 or 3 times a month ive suffered with it since i was 16, my gp sent me to a thrush expert doctor who told me that most gps dont know but thrush comes in differnt strenths just like a common cold now i have to use a combination of things to get rid of it i will either use canasten thrush cream or canasten hydro quatrezone wich if you get from a chemist you have to tell them its for atheletes foot as they wont sell it to you other wise but your doctor will give it to.
dont have to hot shower or bath wear cotton pants dont let your self get to warm at night and a bath with salt in can help as well

I'm sure I have posted this link before but I'll do it again.
This stuff works a million times better than any nasty chemical stuff you can get from the chemist. And you don't need to take it as often as the packet suggests, once mine is under control I don't take it until a get another attack which is often months and months later. here

Best, best thing I have found after a long search is:

few drops of tea tree oil
few drops of lavender oil
few drops carrier oil eg sweet almond oil

in a puddle in your palm, swish your index finger round in it and then, well, shove it up your vagina. No better way of putting it really. Rub it all around inside and out before you go to bed.

Utterly the best thing AND no chemicals

if you're squeamish you could just stick a couple of drops of tea tree on the business end of a tampon and leave that in overnight

Cappster · 13/12/2010 13:15

And as for 'is there a reason', mine was unshiftable for months and months and months. And then it was fine. No reason.

Cappster · 13/12/2010 13:16

also (sorry to go on and on) the essential oil thing is far cheaper

Persistant thrush can be a sign of diabetes. You can get a simple test done by the practise nurse to see if there's any glucose in your urine.

I've had thrush and candida for 3 months. It's affected my stomach and bowel - also get strange headaches. My iron levels are being tested because this can be 1 reason for constant thrush apparently

If you put half the tube inside though does it not burn and get even more painful/uncomfortable for a while? I've just always seen on the packaging that the cream is external use only

I had this for years and by chance, found out that it was caused by washing powder / fabric softener.

I used to buy different ones each time, whatever was on offer. I then started using Fairy only because I preferred the smell and the thrush completely stopped.

i had too and it coincided with hormonal changes menopause)
