Four mornings a week DD2 walks about half a mile to the childminder(she's three) and DD1 walks another half mile back down to school (she's five). On Fridays we just walk to the school, which is about half a mile from our house, and then back in the afternoon.

I reckon that's enough.

DD (4y5m) doesn't get any formal exercise other than half an hour of PE and half an hour of ballet each week at school. She also has two playtimes at school,, and a dinner break - all outside unless raining. However she is very active. She is always running and skipping about, and hardly ever stops at times! She loves running - she did a 1 mile race this summer and really enjoyed it. Hope to do more in the coming year. Not worried about her at all.

dd never watches tv either malory but I think her lifestyle is still too sedentary (lego and building blocks, drawing) but not running about

ds (2 in a couple of weeks) has only recently discovered sitting down . Last month he's wanted 1 day a week doing nowt. Rest of time he doesn't stop running about, jumping on stuff, spinning in circles and his favourite activity dancing. We take him out every day too.

Monday we were out for 5 hours and he was walking around for most of that (apart from time we spent on bus). Then spent 2 hours dancing and running about when we got home.

Hope he keeps this up as he gets older.

ilovecaboose · 20/09/2006 22:00

And he does watch quite a bit of tv, but only sits still to watch it in evening.

dd1 (6) walks to school and back every day - about 3/4 mile each way. dd2 (4) does it twice, cos she's part-time, plus walks 10 mins or so to afternoon activities 2 days a week. they both go swimming once a week. I think it's plenty.

tortoiseshell · 20/09/2006 23:28

Mine walk to school and back, 3/4mile each way. Also swims twice or three times a week, plays LOADS in the garden, always running and climbing. We tend to do lots of walking. Also do soft play, sometimes gymnastics.

Mine do between 6 and 10 hours of karate a week, swimming once/twice a week and PE at school.

Eldest (12) walks 1/2 mile to and from the schoolbus most days. He attends after-school athletics club during the summer.

Younger two (10 and 8) occasionally walk 2 miles home from school, depending on commitments, try to do it with each of them at least once a week...not always possible. They also attend after-school sports club once a week.

I would say they do more than enough, whereas I really need to up my exercise.
