I was having a wee last night, like you do, DH made me laugh and I just felt something give - when I looked down, I saw my insides sticking out - must admit, I nearly fainted! But I figured it wasn't excrutiatingly painful, nor was I bleeding so it could probably wait until morning, but DH took one look and off we went to casualty. They took me straight thru to a doctor who honestly but unhelpfully announced that there was no point in him examining me as he wouldn't know what it was that was protruding but he would contact Gynae. It took 5 hours to be seen... Urgh
Anyway, the gynaecologist said it does appear to be a cervical prolapse, rather than my bladder or bowel (oh God!) and since it was "moderate" and I'm not bleeding or in agony, she discharged me pending an appointment with the consultant - which will probably be 2-3 weeks.
I know its a bit gross, but I have managed to sort of push it back up, though it doesn't feel quite right - you know that feeling you get if a tampon isn't in quite right? I have got some vague aches low down in my tummy and some hip pain (I've been having these for a few days and thought it may be residual SPD since I have been walking all over the place lately) - is this related?
Anyone any experience? I'm a bit creeped out by it tbh, though the hospital didn't seem in the slightest bit concerned, so I'm not going to panic. (She says, panicking!)
I may never forgive DH though - got to the reception in casualty and when she asked what the problem was, before I could answer, he said "It looks like her cervix is falling out of her vagina" The whole waiting room went quiet.... Bloody man - he said the V word. In relation to me. In a public place. Cringe

been there, had that, got the teeshirt!

very distressing at the time but went for a pelvic floor repair. Awful operation, long recovery but fantastic result. I believe I was a "bad case" (insides falling out without warning) but very sympathetic doctor.

If you're not given good help then find someone else who will!

Hi,
I have read this thread with real interest as I too am in theory awaiting surgery (although it scares the hell out of me). What has happened over the last few months to you all - did some of you have surgery, how did the physio work out? Am new to mumsnet so don't know whether this is the right place to post these questions...
How long does the recovery time really take and do you really not lift anything for the first while (have four small children - how practical is that!!)
Thanks for any help/suggestions smile

misdee · 08/03/2005 07:42

well i had another baby 2 weeks ago so kinda know i may be a bit 'floppy' there, so am doing my pelvic floor exercises loads. no idea if its improving or anything, will leave it a few more months and see what happens.

clog · 08/03/2005 13:25

Congratulations on the new baby! Hope it is all going really well.
To get detailed for a moment - yours can't be too bad if you can stand and walk properly without feeling everything is about to drop out!! Mine was terrible after the birth of my fourth... Just keep on those exercises!
Thanks for replying

Hi Katiemac,
sounds mad but not sure exactly what surgery I will be having. They are suggesting that I have prolapse surgery to stitch up the wall but that I will need to agree (prior to the operation) to a hysterectomy if they discover that I need this too when they are there (I am not sure that I am really ready for a hysterectomy as it seems such a big thing and though I don't intend to have any other kids there is something psychologically about taking my womb away!) They are also suggesting a TVT ("whilst they are there!")- I do have a bit of stress incontinence but not too bad (only when I feel very full and try to jump!). ANy advice and times on recovery would be gratefully received. Do you really not lift anything (I have one DD of 9 months, a DS of two years, and two other DS of 5 years and 8 years!). How can they possibly understand that I can't pick them up when they fall over or are crying?
Thanks.

KatieMac · 11/03/2005 21:34

DO NOT LIFT ANYTHING

Even a hard back was too much at first
Please be very careful, sit down and let the children climb onto you. Seriously start it now...let the kids climb up - even the 9m can start to do this and you only need to lean forward and pull a bit.

TVT was at the start of the summer hols and I still felt it pull a bit in Sept. Be carful driving as well

Pip · 01/07/2005 14:54

Any updates anyone?
I think I may have a prolapse (minor I'm hoping). Am waiting for my consultation (not until 1st Sept!). Can feel something (cervix?) at the top of my vagina - hurts during sex & tampons cause discomfort. Am worried. Will start doing some Kegel exercises. Got 2 DS' - both were big babies, both vaginal deliveries. Am 34. What a nightmare. Reassurance anyone?

gallileo · 11/08/2005 09:57

Just waking this one up as I too have something almost protruding. the weird thing for me is that this has happened within 4 weeks of having a Mirena coil fitted. Could it be the progesterone having this effect? My DS2 is 9 months old. It is such a horrible feeling walking around with it kind of hanging there!

honneybunny · 01/03/2006 15:23

I have just read the whole thread and am looking for some reassurance too - so I'm reviving this thread.

Had ds2 by VBAC with forceps and episiotomy almost 11 weeks ago. My stitches are a bit dodgy (seem to have some granulation tissue), so GP said she wouldn't do an internal examination and tried to fix the scar twice and then refered me to gynaecologist. Now dh and I have discovered that there is some kind of obstruction inside (even though he was v.careful, it was sooo painful to me that we had to stop), and I can actually feel my cervix quite close to the exit. Have also been having bad tummy/back aches and am v.tired (thought it was my thyroxin dose that was off again).

Now I am v.worried that I might have prolapse. I guess what I amlooking for is just someone with experience with this, who will tell me that all will be well.... Sad

Had 2nd ds 11 days ago. Had a vaginal wall prolaspe about 8 weeks before he was due and ante-natal consultant said it wouldn't affect the birth and that I should get it check 3 months after birth. Labour very quick and only a few stiches. However, yesterday started feeling very achy there and in a lot of discomfort from my bowels (pressure). My stomach also hurts really bad when wind passes through (sorry gross I know).

Have had a very bad cough for the last week and I think this has made things worse down there as it hurts down there every time I cough. Very hard to poo too. Noticed (sorry had to look - awful I know) but that there was another piece of something now protruding behind the vaginal wall prolapse (towards my bottom) but it is not there all the time (how weird is that. In a lot of discomfort when bowels full. Going to docs tomorrow if can get in. Has anyone else experienced these symptoms?
